I didn't send a letter at the link you provided because I'm not comfortable giving my address out but I did send one at the link that Sketchfan provided. You're right. This bill could be really bad news for us!

Good on ya! Luckily, for now the bill is on hold until later this year. I assume it'll be used as a subject of approval/disapproval during this years election, so keep an eye out!

Poor Rainbow Dash. I'm not American but I can say that the bill if it passes will be a horrible idea and may even effect the econmy of America. They're pissing the world off with this one and it's not okay. I'm tring to help by signing petitions and spreading the word but I'm only young so it won't hold much weight. Good luck in stopping it and I hope Anon raises hell for those bastards!

well at least for now, the deliberations on SOPA and Protect IP were dismissed without a vote. I read that they decided not to hold a vote until the bills are amended properly because they believe that our concerns over this are legitimate.

I heard it was postponed until 2012. Now WHEN in 2012 I'm not sure, but hopefully it'll give us enough to get the entirety of congress kicked off the bench along with their 9% approval rating.

All they are trying to do is get rid of piracy, and from what i've heard, their method doesn't directly work.
I don't know much, all I knowis that they are F***ING STUPID IF THEY THINK THIS WILL ACTUALLY WORK.
America seems to be slowly losing it's freedom...

Actually, from what I've seen, just as many Democratic representatives have voted in favor of this bill as Republicans. It's probably a good idea to NOT turn shit like this into a "this side" vs "that side" ordeal. One of the problems with this country is that everyone is so caught up disagreeing with and bashing the other system of political beliefs that nothing get's done, and no real progress is made.

How about we just stick to the constitution, and uphold freedom and liberty as a whole, instead of complicating things with additional political arguments and irrelevant grudges between two sides of the same coin?

I'd love to know how they intend to enforce anything that would effect sites like this or fanfic.net

Especially when there are things that some companies/people who own copyrights don't mind (MLP FIM, and Star Wars are good examples)

Personally, even if it manages to get passed, I wish them not only luck in enforcing it, I also wish them luck when Anoyomous starts hacking the Pentagon and other government cites in retaliation.

I know a lot of people don’t take it seriously, as if there’s no way it’d pass. …But then the health care bill passed. I don’t like that. But whether one likes it or not, the feds need to stop pushing agendas binding on everyone! What happened to the power of state and local governments?

CocoaNutCakery [2011-11-17 03:58:54 +0000 UTC]

OK, I reblogged this with this comment, but I don't think that sort of thing shows up on your Dashboard and I'm pretty sure you don't read Ask Nebula, so here it is:

Protect IP is dead. It’s been that way for about two weeks. SOPA is not, but if it gets to the Senate (unlikely), it will be.

To explain: Ron Wyden puts holds on anything like this. He's been doing it for over a year at least. Write him a letter to thank him and don't worry too much about these sort of laws.

In order for a bill to get past a hold, 60 senators need to sign a petition to get it to voting. This rarely ever happens and certainly not for bills that are so controversial. The existence of the DMCA also lessens the chance of any of these bills getting cloture.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ShinZm1911 [2011-11-17 01:00:06 +0000 UTC]

I think this thing is getting vetoed: β€œThe Administration strongly opposes Senate passage of S.J. Res. 6, which would undermine a fundamental part of the nation’s Open Internet and innovation strategy β€” an enforceable, effective but flexible policy for keeping the Internet free and open,” the White House said.

Woot!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

werekitty13 In reply to Pinkie-Ponyluv232 [2011-12-18 03:50:08 +0000 UTC]

Are you sure? Because a lot of people give credit, don't claim it as their own, or don't do anything that would say "this is completely my idea" but they get in trouble anyway.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

StarlightSovereign In reply to Pinkie-Ponyluv232 [2011-11-18 15:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, this bill gives the ability to decide which are fan-derivatives and which are piracy into all the wrong hands.

This bill punishes things like those Pony Music Videos that compile great scenes from the show with music by awesome musicians. Fan-made Music Videos only help artists sales because it endears the music to more people... but this act can very well make that illegal.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Fadflamer In reply to JosunTomoro [2011-11-18 03:49:06 +0000 UTC]

I read a really great book focused on a hacker who hacked the pentagon, and was enlisted to take on a big-time philosophical hacker, and it is entirely possible. Who knows. It's possible for a second internet to exist, after all.

I'm sure Anonymous will fight the good fight. So much old people hatred as of recent :<
