Description
I saw this lovely stock picture from and I really wanted to do a charcoal drawing of it.I altered many things with the marking of the wolf dog to better suit my purpose-I really wanted to set up a contrast between the soft side where he is "fading" and the other sharp, crisp side.
Hope you like it!

Very striking, I just want to pet him. It looks like an oil painting.

The impressionistic quality of the "fading", as you so eloquently put it, looks really nice and I think it adds a lot to the composition of the piece. The painterly quality invoked detail and the form feels really solid.

I'm so glad that you mentioned the impressionistic quality-Impressionism is one of my favorite styles of art and has a lot influence on what I do. Thanks so much for the comment!

Awww, I really like the flowing of the hair and the contrast, but my favorite bit is the eye. Well done

My charcoal is becoming increasingly angry that I am not using it for this purpose right now. Little does the charcoal know that it will get its fill in once I get some pencil drawings in. And a few more.
Your attention to detail is very good. I'm currently following the advice of my Art III teacher: "Anybody can be taught how to draw something they can see". For me that's plenty encouraging, so I'm taking the time to draw just what I see.
Then again, at that point I needed the encouragement. There's a reason you shouldn't go from Art I at a more or less slum school to Art III in a school that churns out national contest winners.
Thank you for sharing this with us and for reinvigorating me! Not that I needed it, but... ^^

Thanks!
I had never used charcoal until I took art classes and even then I really hated it, but it has really grown on me since then. I can see why you would want to do pencil drawing though, much less messy
I agree with your teacher, anyone can be taught to draw-just a matter of patience and effort.
