Description
A paid commission for my good friend ~SumiXxChaos of the Gorillaz bassist, grotesque casanova Murdoc Niccals. I love these guys, to an unhealthy extent, though Murdoc was never what I'd consider a charmer. But Harley agreed to pay $20 for his portrait, so hey, why not?Jamie Hewlett's art style is phenomenal, and I tried my best to mimic it here. I lost a few markers along the way, and the scan still looks a bit off to me, but it'll do. Why is Murdoc hamming in front of a giant octopus? No idea. Maybe he made a deal with Cthulhu out there in the ocean. I wouldn't put it past him. Hope the cephalopod's skin is sufficiently wet and lumpy-looking; it can be hard to get a good variety of textures with Copics.
Anyway, this one's for you, Harley! I hope you like it!

the details and the colours of the octopus is beyond awesome!!i never can make that kind of red!
just a little suggestion,if its an octopus there..why dont draw some sea bubble? just an idea though XD

The octopus was actually the most frustrating part of this picture. I kept worrying that its skin lacked texture or variety, but I think it turned out alright in the end.
Bubbles are a neat idea, but I just don't think they fit the feel of this picture. Murdoc's such a scummy old man, it would be kinda out of place, you know?

That's a good question. See, the characters in Gorillaz all age like real people, in real time. So the lady you see in Melancholy Hill is actually Noodle, their guitarist. She was 10 when the story started in 2001, so she's 20 now.

Yeah I know of course did you know that octopuses is the worlds smartest mollisk? It's true! They can even open up jars and stuff!

They're the smartest known invertebrates period. Studies show that octopi have great vision and memory, and some suggest that their IQ may be on par with most dogs. Octopi really are clever, it's just that they're so alien that it's hard for us to recognize their intelligence.
...I'm kind of a fan of cephalopods, can you tell?

Yeah I'm a fan too! I love octopuses! I think they are cute, cool, intelligent, creatures! Plus I heard that they are tasty but I have never ate one! Always wanted to though.......But I problemy would never have the heart to kill one!
