The colours are magnificent You're art always has the misty quality. It's just so smooth and beautiful. Was the sky coloured using gradient? or was it actually hand picked?

shirotsuki In reply to healdria [2005-12-05 14:34:04 +0000 UTC]

hand picked ^ ^. i started by laying down a very bright red, then overlaying that with a darker one and erasing through to the bright red for the first highlights. then i color tinted very carefully in certain places so that when i came back and color dodged later, other colors would appear other than screaming pink XD. and thank you very much ; ;

Man, and to think the smoothness I worship you Is it from experience that you can just tell what it's going to look like once you use layer options such as colour dodge?

actually i never know #^ ^#. that's one of the fun parts, different colors have different effects on the undershades. another one like that is saturation, if you take yellow into a saturation layer, rainbows come out XD. but a lot of times it bleaches the lineart, so i dont do it often.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

healdria In reply to shirotsuki [2005-12-09 00:17:55 +0000 UTC]

Bleach the lineart? you can always just paint under the lineart right? that way it shouldn't affect anything.
It's good to experiment, but I'm too much of a wuss to do that get frustrated if I can't get the effect I wanted

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shirotsuki In reply to healdria [2005-12-16 16:22:13 +0000 UTC]

nope! i apply finishing effects once all the layers merge together, that way all of the colors are altered together and nothing gets left out. and its very, very frustrating.. but then again, art is a masochistic kind of hobby XD

healdria In reply to shirotsuki [2005-12-17 05:14:56 +0000 UTC]

em....I get what you mean. And you like to apply gussian blur and then overlay in two indentical layers right? The soft glowing effect I mean

yap! twicetimes layers on different opacities, yes indeed!

hahahaha, it's a wonderful trick I used it on my Kay Marden piece, but it's rare for me to use photoshop back then, now I don't have painter or OC I have to rely on it

well i wouldn't go without it ^ ^. photoshop is half my technique, so i'd be pretty lost XD;;;.

It's handy to have it around, but perhaps there comes a day, when we want to be able to create beautiful work without the special filters

yah, i really miss using my colored pencils. yap, im so digital nowadays ; ;. *stares at them longingly*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

healdria In reply to shirotsuki [2006-01-07 01:03:20 +0000 UTC]

em.......why not use them again? When you have time that is It'll be a great feeling, going back I did that recently and the response was quite satisfying
This one: [link] is like me trying to use tradtional medium after years of digital-only partices and it came out reasonable

aah but it's so beautiful! i always wanted to be able to watercolor, but they dont seem to care much for me ; ;. for me though, its totally a case of having too little time to devote lately. i dont know how long it's gonna take, but one of these days im going to finish this one picture in my BIG sketch pad. its like.. huge.. and scary.. and there are many birds. yes. i work a little on it every month or so XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

healdria In reply to shirotsuki [2006-01-11 08:19:11 +0000 UTC]

I don't really know about the tools not caring for the one that whield them, since I'm pretty accustomed to every kinds of media I think it just takes some time to get it right. After all, watercolour takes the least amount of time to do, well in my opinion that is
I understand that feeling, it's like so many things you want to do and just don't seem to have the time...then slowly, it comes "why bother"
Are you going to post it onto DA once you finish it? It's almost like me doing a big tradtional piece too, bit by bit, it slowly pieces together after monthes of hard work

Me and my buddies are gonna have a watercolour/traditional medium day sometime soon wish you could join us, that'd be awsome...But you're sooooo far awayTT.TT

But I look forward to your victorious battle with watercolour, one of these days

A very intersting picture! ^^ I must say that I didn't see the moose until I read your comment! -_-; I'm sorry. I'm not that observent, but after you said that, I saw it! ^^ I really like the colors and the shading on the person and all the little extras (the fire, glowing things, etc)! ^^ You put a lot into your work and it shows!
