Description
I know this one might not become too popular, but I want to present you all with a passion project of mine. The Great Work is an Amnesia: The Dark Descent Custom story created in 2013 by Damascus. If the name of this story rings a bell, then you most likely love Amnesia, have seen a youtuber play this custom story, or maybe you just heard it in a passing conversation. And I LOVE this custom story, it is very terrifying and doesn't rely on cheap jumpscares, but the unrelenting atmosphere to scare you. And to top it off, the story in it is brilliant. Not to mention the story uses actual European history in its narrative! This story is special for me, it was one of the first Amnesia-playthroughs I watched from Markiplier, and it inspired me to play the story myself last October. And yes, I had the courage to beat it. And afterwards got inspired to someday create this artwork.
This piece is another crossover-art piece, and I put a lot of time and effort into this, almost 7 hours in total. Since I cannot draw humans that well, I decided to turn the humans present in the story into animatronics, mostly because they’re easier to draw and that’s my thing to do, and also because it's a crossover with FNAF. So...to explain, Johann Moriaen is the over-aching villain in the custom story, who I depicted as a wolf, as wolves are generally seen as villains in fiction. And Samuel Hartlib, your ally in the story, I depicted as a deer because of the passive nature of the animals. But the monsters present in the custom story, The Remnant(In the middle) and Intelligencers(Both on the side) I kept loyal to the source. For those who don't know, the red mist behind everyone is The Shadow, Guardian of the Orb, who also plays a huge part in the custom story, just like in the main campaign of Amnesia. Also...black outlines, because colored outlines just wouldn't work on a piece with dark atmosphere.
If you are interested in knowing the story behind this artpiece better(Or you wanna rewatch it), I recommend watching Markiplier's playthrough of The Great Work . It is fun, and you get to see younger Mark! ...Not to mention it's funny to see him struggle with the difficult puzzles the story throws at him, and avoid the monsters like an idiot. Or...if you are brave enough, and have the game, I do recommend playing the custom story yourself. Or at least looking into its inspiration if you're a history nerd.
