Here is my contribution to the whole Pirates vs Ninja fad that is going on...It looks like Kasumi and Mai just can't seem to figure out why Ninja are far superior to Pirates and explaining that to their friend May...
Can you give the two girls a good reason why Ninja have the upper hand over Pirate?

Well Pirates are a lot of sticky men who are stuck on a boat. At least Ninjas can go home walk on solid land and buy fresh food. Plus it takes skill to be a true ninja.

What, are there more than one kind?! Vikings in general are superior to pirates, ninjas, and samurai. And any combination of those three things.

Robots fail at melee combat. The Clockwork Men in Rise of Legends were pretty awesome, though.

I suppose, but the really useful combat ones require an operator. Even if the Viking couldn't get at the operator, they could just smash the cameras on the robot.

Now that's just unfair. Unwritten rule is that internet combat must never involve weapon technology more advanced than a musket, unless both combatants are high-tech in which case nothing below a gatling cannon is acceptable.

It seems like any time people are doing a "who would win" debate, they tend to either talk about something older than pirates or something in the far future. By the usual logic, the robots in our discussion would be armed with close combat weapons only.

I suppose the discussion is ultimately pointless anyway, though if I ever get around to wrting something about interaction over the internet this conversation might come in handy. That will also never happen, but either way.

Well, the different types are- Exploring Vikings (Kickass guys who found Greenland and Vinland), Norsemen (Mythical), Barbaric (too crude to beat the trained Samurai), and dead in battle (they got killed. You know they had to suck).

I favour the Norsemen and the Raiding/Exploring, but barbaric would stand a good chance against the smaurai. They would ignore anything resembling personal safety and any form of swordfighting would be out the window. Samurai would be so used to planned and "intelligent" sword fights that they would be confused (and overwhelmed) by the sheer ferocity of the Vikings. And the ones who died may have simply gotten bored and hurled themselves at an army or something, doesn't mean they weren't as good.

Okay,REAL samurai would be ownzed. But someone like Mugen from Samurai Champloo would have a chance- he's unpredictable!

Maybe, but Barbaric Vikings don't try to predict your moves. They just swing an axe the size of England at your general direction. From what I saw of Samurai Champloo, though, Mugen's pretty damn fast, so he would at the very least be an opponent that the Viking would consider worthy. At the best, he would beat the Viking.

True, but I'm leaving Norse gods out of this. Vikings are dangerous enough opponents when they aren't powerful enough to create worlds. Maybe that can be the new thing-Vikings vs Samurai instead of Pirates vs Ninja...

They're actually pretty close. The main difference is that historical ones were more likely to believe in omens and other crazy shit like that, and were probably not as intense as Leonidas.

...Wow, not one of my better moments. Historical Spartans-it's unfair to compare Vikings to genetically engineered super-soldiers with machine guns. Out of their armor and given knives, I give the SPARTANS (Halo ones now) fair odds. They're faster, but Vikings are used to melee only weapons, whereas the SPARTANS would be used to guns.
