This actually kinda happens in the game. Sonic seems to be trying not to cry in the end of the game. No really. He actually does. And you'd expect him to be actually shocked and surprised to see him alive in Sonic heroes.BUT NO! Sega completely ruins that scene in Sonic heroes! Touching picture by the way.

well shadow wanted revenge of his friend maria who died and he wanted earth destroyed but in the end, sonic and shadow saved the earth but shadow fell to earth and they all thought he died so yeah..XD
