As for the time thing...
I say just hack out as many comics as you can in the time that you have, and just draw comics. Avoid pinups and coloring. The root of comics is in your linework, inks and paneling. When you're an indy comic artist its very rare your work gets printed in color too. Besides that, the best comics are in black and white anyway!

Yeah, I work on a lot of comics -- it's just rare that I ever have the time to complete one. Though, when I do, it's just powerhouse Maylasian Child Sweatshop Labor type of work. There are days where I wonder at 4 AM why my stomach hurts, and then remember that I haven't eaten all day because I've been so bussy.
DAMN school for taking that away from me!
