However, they will have to go to scrapes, which means no one will be able to see them unless they click on the "scraps" button, that no alot of people really do. I also dont get why people even bother to put work up that isnt theirs, what exactly are they ganna gain from it?

i can see someone scanning something from a book or something a friend did to their scraps for references.

if it isnt online.

just in case a fire happens... like someones own personal web folder.

Whether or not it's a waste of time, you're not going to get in trouble for posting artwork that's copyright free or public domain since you're legally allowed to do almost anything you want with it (I'm not sure what the limitations of public domain are, but you're not going to reach them here on dA). It's just not worth getting worked up over.

actually, there is a copy-right law on DA which can get you sued for art theft if you go through the DA rules, therefore anyone who gets "caught" uploading stuff that doesnt belong to them can get reported for it and banned, which is why on DA there are plenty of 'Anti-art theft" clubs where people put down names and links of stolen work which are reported to the admins which will evenchally get deleted and could face a ban from DA.

This website is not like photo-bucket or piczo..this website has actual serious rules against copy-right which every single person on DA MUST follow.

Um... We're talking about Public Domain and Copyright Free artwork. Art like that is not subject to copyright infringement, and using them is not breaking the law. Public Domain means that the work belongs to the public, not to a private entity. Please read up on Public Domain .

I agree that we need to follow dA's copyright policy when uploading artwork to the website, but Copyright Free and Public Domain artwork is allowed under that policy. Nobody's going to get in trouble for it, and getting upset, reporting it, or arguing with offending deviant over it is just going to backfire in your face.

When it comes to putting up scraps, it's not about whether or not others will see; it's about doing it because you can. Also, public domain paintings are great meme-fodder for groups that allow it.
