Ozul traced his fingers down his cheek, smile glowing on his face as Val turned his head into the touch, and continued to speak, voice almost trembling with wonder.

"I saw you, my love, a bright falling star, burning with the last flame of a coal before it goes out--and I, a child, the child I have always been, scrambled to catch you. You fascinate me," he breathed. "You always have, even before I loved you, before I knew myself enough to know my emotion as love. And then, when I knew... I almost lost myself forever in that giddy rush of feeling, of knowing... so much so that I feared I would never come back, having lost myself in you. You say I play with danger; the most dangerous thing I have ever done is fall in love with you." His smile changed then, taking on the hint of a smirk, hungry and challenging. "I will ask you once more: would you have me stop?"

Val's heart was racing; he could feel his blood pounding under his skin, pulsing against Ozul's touch. The words echoed in his mind until they took on a feverish, dreamlike quality--a challenge--as much of a challenge as Ozul's hands on his back, Ozul's lips on his throat, Ozul's chest and shoulders and arms and hips and the solid hardness of him, pressed against Val's--as much of a challenge as his body, his entire being, his posture and presence and his own reassuring selfness. There was more to that challenge than simply daring Val to ask him to stop his dangerous games. There was also a question, something fragile and delicate, that could not be put into words: was he in too deep? Had he fallen too fast, too hard, too far? Should he rein himself in before it became too much--before it swallowed them both?

Val's answer to both questions was the same.

"No," he gasped, "No, Ozul--never stop!"
