Description
Commission fromRan and Ukitsu enjoying a simple scuba dive with each other's company...
Honestly, I would have envisioned more fishes in there, but I felt the specter of madness lurking about from overdrawing... so I just put a bunch of the little boogers instead of a swarm.

One of my fave commishes and the background for my computer. Now I need to find someone to colour it. Superb work as always Shoxxe.

Very impressive! Besides the lovely ladies the detailed ocean floor on the bottom right is great and the amount of fish is wonderful. Also noticed that they are holding hands. Hands holding hands is, at least I find, rather difficult. Great work

Yeah, I'm vaguely satisfied about those hands... First time I did a shot like that, and it wasn't easy. It's acceptable, but it's nowhere near as good as it should be.
Anywho, thanks for passing by!

Great work, I think you chose the correct time to stop adding fish to the background

As long as no one comes around to tell me I should have drawn more, I think I'll keep my sanity intact.

Ah, mon ami... You'll just have to keep in mind that a superbly done pic is, when you add a watermark to it, simply not the same pic anymore. Either you start accepting that, or you stop doing non-public commissions.
Having it both ways is a bit like turning your lights off to save on electricity, and then complaining that it is dark.
Lots of people wouldn't eat the best cake in the word if the plate on which it is served is dirty. Similarly, who would fave a watermarked pic? Only those that don't mind eating in dirty plates...
Given that your prices are low, and that you are swamped with commissions, and that you keep the originals anyway, you are now faced with a simple but obvious choice: either continue as you were, doing your clients the favor of choosing if a commissionned pic is watermarked or not, or... stop wondering why pics you judge superb are not faved at all.
The most handsome pair of shoes you can think of, made by the finest craftsman with the best tools and finest materials, will not win the "best pair of shoes award" if on all but one of the pairs you add a single nail inside them "to make sure that only one person can walk confortably in them". Such "little things" have quite a tendency to actualy "ruin the experience".
So, sure it wasn't faved: No big surprise there!
A commissioned pic and its watermarked version just aren't the same images.

Still, "ruined by the watermark" or not, this is great work! I actually think that doing a few packs of 5-10 detailed fishes is actually much, much better looking that doing a few swarms of hundreds of low-detail "fish outlines".
You keep getting better, continue with the good work!
Pax.

I really would like to improve my lineart, and you do it the best of all the people I've seen here on DA. Among a few that is XD

shoxxe In reply to DKDevil [2008-11-20 01:37:30 +0000 UTC]
Oh my... I don't think that would be possible doing that online... not to mention I'm not that much of a teacher to begin with!
I'm flattered you think so highly of me and my artwork, but I would suggest looking around DA for drawing tutorials - I'm sure there's plenty of them out there that you'll find useful... A small collection among others:

One tip I can give you is not to just *read* about drawing... put your pencil to the page! Practice can make a difference! Draw from observation, and don't worry too much about getting it perfect every time. Live with your mistakes and tell yourself you'll do better in the future.

Wise words indeed. I'll have a look. but drawing isn't really my problem. It's making nice lineart. how do you do it? is it pen? or do you go over your drawings using photoshop or another art program?

shoxxe In reply to DKDevil [2008-11-20 19:01:25 +0000 UTC]
Oh, the lines?
Hmm... well, mostly it's just a lot of pencil work. I draw a line over and over, pushing harder on the pencil every time until it's clear/dark enough. It's a long process, really.
I just use mechanical pencils in my work, 0.5 almost all the time, with a 0.7 to redraw the main outlines and some of the shadow work.
I never redraw the lines via software, but I do crank up the contrast 10 to 20 to get rid of most of the scratches and remaining line errors when I scan. Then it's a little cleanup of the dust particles that can remain.

Hmm... that's been my format for a long time (since early this year, in fact!). I couldn't go back now, I've grown accustomed to all the extra space available on a big format, and being able to add all those details...
