Well the thing about imagination is, it can create anything! These characters were probably not based on animals at all. but rather, based on court jesters.

Reala is basically NiGHT's evil twin he's like reality while she's dreams. Reala is one of the hardest bosses you have to beat in the first game (very old game) he then plays a important part in the much newer game, and that game happens to suck.
