Interesting, inspiring! But give me feeling that she is alone up there and for long time maybe...

I wanna work on a spaceship or a space station as an engineer, its always been my dream and I don't mind hard work, if there are any aliens reading this, please look me up, very nice rendering

As i am not very familiar with the rendering softwares, I would love to learn how to do rendering work close to this. I have worked with airbrushing and painting, but this is something that can also bring beauty to the soul. I could use this image in a meditative exercise where i can feel the firmness of the bed made of some smooth gel which conforms to the body unlike any presently on Earth (which i can finally sleep well), and a cotton like smooth sheet. The sunlight warms up part of the body that is exposed to it. And darn those slippers must have gotten kicked under the bed.

Like the computer design and layout. That's an interesting window pattern for a space station.

did you do the modeling in this yourself? this is top notch and I'd love to have that computer obj file.

Siamon89 In reply to ILJackson [2010-08-18 00:08:55 +0000 UTC]

Yes I did it myself. Well most of the switches and schematics were heavily inspired by a 737 cockpit but, not exactly the same.

I really like the individual elements in this one, but I agree with the commenter who notes it's an odd mix. I don't mind the bed being in the frame, though the style of bed looks completely out of place in the context of the rest of the shot. It should be cantilevered out from a wall, something that would likely disappear as soon as she steps off it onto the floor. The windows are more designer styled than you would likely find in a function-over-form space environment, but I like that - they give it an air of a future far enough away that this kind of environment isn't just function anymore, that there's an esthetic quality that's crept back into the construction.

What struck me right away was the telco style patch panel over the translucent display. In an engineered structure such as this one, all the hard connections would be made in black boxes, and controlled through software. The likelihood that anyone would be able to re-patch routes manually is extremely low.

All of that said, the visual appeal of this is tremendous. You've got an amazing eye for textures, modeling and lighting.

Thank you both for extensive comments.

I agree with you, its a very odd mix, somehow I wanted to give this also an "analog" and "retro" look [1/4" cables, displays with LCD numbers etc.]. The bed: It's completely artistic and "surreal" if you will. It has nothing to do with the future space reality . I really wanted a bed "inside the wall", then I decided to leave it like this. Not to mention that maybe it is not even possible for a station to have a bed next to a world-saving computer, like I said its completely artistic.

As always, the modelling on it's own is top notch however several things are little it down.

Design - you've really got to establish the context of your image, is it a happy time in the distant future, or a distopian world closer to now. In this image, you have elements of both and it's causing a number of contradictions. It's a prison sell (in mood) but with a holographic cyberpunk computer and then with 1950's style switch boards and dials on the wall, with a pretty rudimentary bed.

Composition - it has several focuses throughout the piece, the room it'self would have naturally given flow to the composition, if it wasn't so dark in relation to the other elements, in the end it doesn't work as well as it could have.

Other things to try
Colour grading and bloom post processing in photoshop
DOF
Wall lighting panels

I gotta ask how do you get the screen like that i mean to have the earth pic and the graphs on it and be still see through in max, also how did you get the keyboard and all the dials neon lighted like that???

Hope you can divulge a few secrets

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Siamon89 In reply to Materia-Arts [2010-08-12 07:18:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, of course

The whole screen is a plane, with self-illuminating material. I made that texture, with the planet and graphs etc, the graphs were taken from CGTextures.com... It has no background, the texture, its a PNG image. But there is also a black background version of it, which you put in "cutout" in self-illumination maps. Therefore, thats the result. Keyboard is plane too, with a custom texture that I edited, just reversed the colors so normally the letters in black are now white and self-illuminating. All the rest is completely 3d, with self illuminating materials. I can put a picture of just the computer, if you would like to .
