Description The queen loves all her children...save one: her successor. For to a queen, any other queen, whether kin or not, means one thing: competition.
Lest the mother kills the child, the new queen is therefore removed from the mother hive as quickly as possible. A small escort of workers is given to her, to nurture and care for her until she is fit to rule and expand the new hive.
Most queens never meet their parent, which - given their naturally aggressive territorial behaviour - is a good thing.Β The pheromone mix alone - familiar, yet different - is enough to make most queens fly into a minor frenzy.

Changeling Queen:
"Before you decide to remove me in a non-regal, barbaric manner, you should know that Changeling hives, by tradition and instinct, will not accept any other leader other than a queen, from the same noble bloodline. If she is not allowed to be made heir to the throne, when the day comes that I pass into the next world, without a queen, the hive realm will fall into chaos, ripped apart by civil conflict, and open to invasion by other hives, ruled by queens who are, if you know the Changeling politics of that region, EVEN WORSE than I am.

Would you rather condemn my changelings by the millions to war, anarchy and oppression then let MY daughter accept what is essentially her birthright?"

So what could Twilight and the little Changeling princess do? This is your typical "Between Scylla and Charybdis" situation...

There's no easy solution....
Hand her over on a certain condition(s), perhaps? (Non-aggression pact, occasional visits to Equestria as part of diplomacy, etc.)

I'll leave it to anyone else who is interested to write a solution.

Because I'm out of ideas.Β

Let her have her 'birthright', only if they agree not to invade Canterlot again.

From the looks of it, laying a royal egg must be much more strenuous then it would be for an ordinary one (drone, soldier, ect).

Dgs-Krieger In reply to ??? [2014-05-19 12:39:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh there's Miasma.Β

I never really though about this. It's a good concept and makes sense.

But how about this: The Queen has nothing against the egg itself, but as soon as it hatches, the younger queen will have to leave the Hive inmedeatly, because if the Queen of any drone finds her, they will kill her.

Hardvaro In reply to ??? [2014-05-19 09:21:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm assuming queens don't know when they're laying a royal egg, and it's up for the workers to figure that one out, right? I mean otherwise they'd just crush it before the workers even have a chance to hide it away.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siansaar In reply to Hardvaro [2014-05-19 12:42:07 +0000 UTC]

well no. the queen knows it's another queen, but she knows the hive must go on.
think of it like this: you're the king of a kingdom. one day you get a son, and you know that if he reaches a certain age, he will automatically become king too. well, you like being king and you don't want him to usurp your throne, so you figure you'll have him thrown out of your kingdom to make his own. you're fine with him being king, just not...in your kingdom. your basic instincts tell you that if he sticks around, he'll usurp you. that fear drives you crazy, so better he get out as soon as possible, or you'll end up killing him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-05-19 16:45:44 +0000 UTC]

.....problem there is that a king does not do that because it is not coming of age stuff with a monarchy. it is when the king either chooses to retire or dies.

i didn't say it IS like that, i said THINK of it like that.

Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-05-19 17:35:51 +0000 UTC]

.........how do you purposefully misunderstand something?

and no i am not. i simply did nto understand the comparison. think a large part of ti is that changeling queens are far more long lived than a human. i can guess their view better cause they can live so long that their offspring and them caneasily end up clsahing. a human king would be close to death by the time their son is of age if you get my meaning; lifespans were not that long back then.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siansaar In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-05-19 17:47:26 +0000 UTC]

what i'm saying is, think of it as if you were a human king operating on such principles. why the hell are you thinking of actual history?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-05-19 18:34:04 +0000 UTC]

..actually now there is a question i have to ask about your concept. if a queen slays an opposing queen, what happens to the fallen queen's drones? do they just fall apart without their queen, are they enslaved? or can the victorious queen somehow take control of them herself and integrate them into her hive?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siansaar In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-05-19 18:37:29 +0000 UTC]

those who don't willingly subject themselves are killed, the others adapt on a biological level to the new queen, taking on her pheromone structure etc.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-05-19 18:23:05 +0000 UTC]

shrugs. maybe i have been watching too much game of thrones. kings are often obsessed with making sure it is their blood that sits on the throne next. either you have an heir to the throne or your enemy will sit in it once you kick the bucket...... and often enough that is what happens in that series.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Siansaar In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-05-19 18:35:19 +0000 UTC]

yeah well, i'm not talking about that. at all. i'm not talking about historical kings, or anything like that either.
i'm saying that, IF you were a changeling queen, operating on changeling principles, this is how you would behave. you would not immediately kill your offspring cause the changeling line has to go on, but in your kingdom, you will tolerate no other of kingly blood. you will not risk your kingly offspring growing up in your kingdom to the point where it could contest you for your throne in your own kingdom. and it would, cause that's how changeling queens behave. it's ingrained in both you and your "successor" on a biological level. it's in your very nature.
get it?

Lordoffantasy In reply to Siansaar [2014-05-19 17:56:13 +0000 UTC]

.......... i haven't a clue where you are going with that. a king doing that would only ensure a rival took his throne after he dies.

Almost tragic really, that Queens will never know their parents. I suppose then that the escort workers who raise her will be seen as their parents instead.

thinnk he might be making them a bit TOO much like insects though. they are not actually bugs after all. jut like a minotaur is not actually half bull, and a gyrphon is not half eagle or lion.

GaiaNex In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-05-19 14:30:16 +0000 UTC]

I agree on this a bit but what else do have to fall back on? The show never went into the whole thing at all and the comics just focus on one big revenge scheme. This show is kinda bad at that and it's why I usually accepted more fanon materials than canon.Β

Drone: Just one, actually - "baseball bat."
Queen: Baseball bat?

An amazing picture concept - I must point out some things I observe in this section

Lacera is in a bad mood clearly, she's not supposed to have a look of hate unless... she doesn't want this - noted, probably needs answering if you'd like

The drone looks like he/she would like to look after the child for a while - noted - answering, if you know... would like

The cave looks like a throat, because of the little top hanging pillar of a uvula - small humor...

Her bed that she resides on just looks like slime on rock... unlike miasma's bedding in her bath scene this doesn't look like... a un-failiure of a Queens room... - noted also as well well question... like the other two...
