On a canvas painted emerald, serenity was ruined by a bustle of approaching voices. More so than just voices lilted from the treeline; giggles came too, harsh song and the pounding of paws. A far softer sound was the gentle trundling of a wooden cart over a well-worn trail.

A single puckoo lifted its head, a pebble tumbling from slack jaws before it would flee, its murky wings flared from its slender frame. This left the meadow empty, all for a fleeting moment. For, in the next, a cream blur would bound from the treeline, head lifted to serenade the world around it.

“Creepy crawly, buggy wuggies, we just want to give you huggies,” the voice was harsh and tuneless, seeming to have a rather physical an effect on the second form. With head bowed and eyes narrowed, the next wyngling was a deep crimson. He was heralded by the unique name, Magnai. His tongue was protruding, proving it sharp as he spoke;

“Aren’t you bored yet?”

The cream wyngling paused, giggling as her ears twitched and her stubby tail wagged, she seemed to be thinking intently, gears whirring behind her oddly duel coloured eyes.

“Nope,” The crimson wyngling opened his mouth to retort, but a third form emerged, and a fourth, this followed by the muffled clop as the male’s jaw closed once again. It seemed, even without the retort, that the female had finished with her song.

“This will be a good spot, don’t you think?” This third creature was stood tall on two legs, slender frame swathed in fluff. Noki.

“Yep! I think so, lots of space and all nice and flat!” The fourth form would exclaim, she being a darker tone of grey, even as her pelt was met by the warmth of the midday sunlight, the shade of the forest trailing behind. This female was another wyngling trotting along with the handle of a cart clasped in her mouth.

“Okey dokey,” the cream wyngling chirped.

This was followed by a less enthusiastic note of consent, “sure,” from the male.

Words were shared as the last wyngling released the cart, the decision made that they would each make their own buddee homes. Four houses, Xanthe had insisted, was better than one. Magnai, was swift to agree, grabbing a mouthful of leaves and sticks from the cart and turning from the rest of his group. Xanthe too, was enthused, swiping her own cluster of greenery. Skipping through the grass, the female would leave a trail of dropped leaves in her wake, darker speckles against the pale blades. Reaching her desired patch, she would drop onto her haunches, setting down what was left of her claimed pile. The cyan eyes of the last wyngling were watchful of this, lips teased by a small smile. A pause would claim her, before her head would turn to Noki.

“Wanna make ours together, Noki?” She wondered brightly.

“Sure,” the adult offered a small smile, ears perking slightly as she swiped a paw over her forehead, sweeping a pale strand of hair from her eyes. “Let’s start over here, might as well stay close to the cart.” Noki lowered herself to her knees, eyes gently amused, she would love to be a mother, she observed. Kanna was fairly dextrous with her claws, building up a little ring by driving the twigs into the dirt, atop of this, the female would weave a somewhat shaky canopy of leaves.
“Those are skylights,” she would tell Noki with a grin.

Nearby, Xanthe’s tongue was clasped between her lips, her brows furrowed in intense focus. Her claws shook slightly with the sheer tension in her lithe shoulders. Ever. So. Careful. Before her, a pair of twigs were just about leant against each other. Gasping, the cream she rocked backwards as the sticks finally settled still. Her features set up into the widest grin, as she regarded her palace. However, her attention was easily whisked away as a voice cried;

“Oh my goodness, look at what Magnai has done!”
