I know this may seem stereotypical, but honestly I can see Godzilla being a legend in Mistral, given much of the kingdom is inspired off of Asian culture.

Anyways, during the days leading up to the first Rodan's appearance, Ren sees this old painting of a legend he remembered from childhood: the legend of Gojira. Gojira, also known as Godzilla, was a beast whose name filled even the bravest of men's hearts with fear, and was he foretold to bring about a calamity to the world of Remnant. In the present day, it is regarded as little more than an old legend. However, once the first Rodan appears, Ren ins't so sure anymore, and his friends on JNPR and RWBY soon agree with him.
