Such a great combination of color! I like how you color the lighting on his face like it's such an ease and effortless XD, is this your oc? i think it look sgreat! if i can ask question,right now i'm having a trouble in coloring because i tend to make many layers for example for coloring the skin i can make 4-5 layers for it such as shadowskin layer, softshadowskin layer, basiccolorskin layer, etc...is my method wrong because whenever i tried to color with multiple layers i'm getting kinda confused such as which layer i color this part? I know this question maybe weird but i'm really confused and looking at your art makes me curious wether i'm using layers feauter in sai and photoshop in a right way or wrong way? Nevertheless your art is great! I want to see more of your arts!

Regarding your question, there is no right or wrong way to do it actually-- it's all just what your comfortable with!! I actually have a few screenshots saved from when I was working on it:Β
Β you can see my shading process here!
I only used 2-3 layers max for shading. The first base layer is the base, mid-tone color of the skin, which is the lightest green/grey in the second panel.
Then I made a second layer for shading. Using multiply or not is your choice, but I didn't have it on. That layer is the 3rd panel. Then I make a third layer for tiny shading details, such as the nostrils, lips, eyes, etc.Β
Regarding highlighting I made a new layer and set it to overlay and use a big soft brush for highlights, like the 4th panel. The rest is all the same method. just have one for shading and one for highlights, usually multiply and overlay respectively.
There really is no wrong or right way to do it, you can use as many or as little layers as you like! Use your layers for whatever you want them to, there is no set layer for "this part" or "that part". I just use them so if I mess up in it, I don't have to completely erase what I did under it c:

Also if you don't mind, can i ask you another question? For my newest art i already applied your advice which is great help for me, really, but there's something makes me curious..in your explanation you're using 2-3 layers: 1stlayer for colorbase (basic color, mid tone, etc); 2nd base you add shadingΒ (but not setting your layer to multiply); 3rd layer you add details with layer setting multiply for little details such as nostrils etc..and my question is: do you know when to stop when shading and adding details at your drawing? I also applied the same method like you (1st layer for basiccolor and midtone, etc..) Because i think my biggest problem is whenever i finish coloring something, i still think my drawing looks too cartoonish or too 2d (which it is) and i try to make it more 3d by make a new layer again, again, and again and add more shading in each layers but after that my art become too messy..i think i don't know when to stop shading my art
