I've had some cases where someone would send me a note telling me that my art has been stolen. It sounds all serious, but it would usually end up being just a re-post here on Deviantart and get taken down instantly. Once though someone had taken 1-2 of my drawings and changed the hair color of them to purple and posted them on facebook claiming them their own. I thought that was hilarious.
Usually it's just petty cases like this. I've heard some horror stories of bigger sites taking a bunch of artworks to sell them. But for the most part I don't think it's worth bothering with adding watermarks. It might just be me, I think a lot of the time they can feel a bit ugly. Though I am a fan of good signatures, they can often add to the piece. What do you think?
To be honest, your watermark is quite nice, It just bothers me how it tangents with the sides of the cloak. >_>

In my personal opinion I think its up to me to classify what is petty and is not petty or deems worthy of being considered theft and placing a watermark. For a small time hobbiest like me, I feel its important to protect my work and add a watermark, especially if it is not recognizable as my own drawing by other people on the internet and it is important to direct them to the original poster.
Weather its ugly or not is not really what concerns me: I do agree its best if a watermark blends nice enough to not stand out and take away from the piece too much, but it needs to be visible enough to be present and not drawn over/cropped out.Β
I do not believe someone needs to see 100% of a drawings pixels to enjoy it, and I'd much rather protect my work than cater to someones viewing enjoyment. I'm sorry you think of it this way, but I will not be changing how I put them on my work.Β

Right, that's a good point I guess. Sometimes someone might re-post something of yours on say Tumblr without adding a link to where it's from. It might be good to add a link to your site within the drawing if you would like anyone who sees it to be able to find your other works. Still, if it's something like that, the link can be added in a corner. I used to do that, kind of like this:Β Human Rainbow Dash
