Description

This is a sketchier drawing; I felt it said a lot more like this.
This is a minor tribute to Chester Bennington. Thank you for your music
and your words that inspired me to make this guy, a symbol of my own
fight and my own 'reason'.
May you rest in peace.

I also made a smaller, happier follow-up doodle . : )

Axel is a character I designed about two years ago. I’ve changed his origin story over a couple dozen times and never exactly decided how I liked it, in the end. However, the gist of it has always remained the same; someone who’d been discarded and told he was alone. Someone who always took his problems as they were and allowed himself to bear them alone, never deeming himself worthy of help. A self-proclaimed faulty life, and found the trudge a pain. He could have easily thrown it away whenever and no one would have batted an eye, not even himself. But, he found worth. Axel found someone who gave him a reason to- well, anything. He gave Axel a reason. Someone to protect, something to look forward to, to wait for, someone who expected him, and someone who believed he wasn’t broken. He found someone who felt he was enough and who showed him it was okay to not be okay. Someone who truly loved him. So, he learned it CAN be outmatched, and it CAN be outrun. It’s easier to walk through Hell when you aren’t alone, hand in hand.

Like Axel, we all need something to fight for, that we would go against impossible odds for.

A reason.
