For feedback i prefer choose an environment work because i'm not very good at character drawing for the moment ^^
So here is my opinion.
First when i saw it i just take a look at the castle and i thought i was far...my eyes follow the bridge and arrived on some grass hill...so i took a look at this hill hand i can see some grass but didn't have to come closer to the screen to see them, and finally i arrived on the first ground with the tree.
Unfortunalty when my eyes come back to take a look at the entire image, i think there's a problem of distance bitween the elements in the scene.
Take a look at the tree on the right side, in my opinion he is 2-4 meters tall, now take a look at the colomn on the border of the road, in my opinion the first is 1 meter or less tall, the last one have is tall divided by 2.
I see the difference bitween grass a the left forground and at the background i can see some grass, they're hum...20-30cm tall in real, the bridge just next to grass or 20-30 meters behind the grass should be at 5-6 meters tall wich make the castle...3x6 = 18 meters tall.
If he is so big we couldn't see grass on the left background, it should be just a shape in my opinion.

Here is an exemple of what i mean :

[link]

In this piece, we can see some grass on the left forground, the character at the forground and the character on the bridge give us the distance bitween the elements and we can get the distance bitween them wich make the ruins at the top perfectly right and give us the feeling of big building.
Don't forget even in digital art to respect the "third rule" if your castle was at the 2/3 large of your image, with the tallest tower on the 1/3 from the top of the scene the eye will look at here at start unless you wanna drive our eyes on the bridge and the entrance of the castle but i think it's not what people should look at in my opinion. And on the focal point, add the most details as you can because it's here people are looking.

Maybe it's just that we don't have any elements to give us the distance bitween the point of view and the castle, the mill on the left too, a mill is 4-5 meters tall and we can see the grass in front of it wich are mill tall divided by 2/3 and i don"t think the grass is 1-2 meters tallon the hill.

Think about proportions and "third rules" and i think it could enhanced the final result.

Hope you'll understand what i mean because my english isn't very good.

I still learning so good job in all case, now the positive points...i really like your color palette on this one, nice ambiances and the sky really enhanced the "fantasy" side of the scene.
I like how you render the tree at the forground on the right, really nice render and make me think about some traditionnal painting techniques.

And maybe this can give you some tips :
[link]

And if you have free time take a look at "feng zhu" video on youtube, very helpfull to progress and make better.

I know i'm a little hard on this one but i'm not perfect at all too and have a lot of work too to progress so all the best and i hope you'll invite me to come back again to get some feedback.

C u soon

haha I just gotta saw WOW, that is for sure, the longest and most thought through comment I have ever recieved

Ive read through your comment several times now to remember it all, and yeah I agree you got some good points there, and the flaws you mentioned I agree with.

To be honest im not that happy with the grass fields, and the bridge, my favourites in this is mostly the sky, and after that, the castle ofcourse, and I like the foreground details like the trees, the roots, the grass and the water.

Thank you very, very much for the detailed comments got no problem with critiques as long as they make sense, happy to get them

I saw your first link, that castle painting, saw it earlier today I gave that one a 10/10 I think it looks just perfect, when I saw it I thought thats exacly how I want my paintings to look like some time in the future.

Didnt know that thing about the third rule stuff you mentioned, and the grid stuff also, thanks for the info, really gonna try out this stuff next time I start with a new painting!

Yeah gonna go back to this comment when I got the time and look that up on youtube.

best critique I have gotten that I can remember so good job and thanks for taking the time

Tevarro [2012-08-22 03:45:52 +0000 UTC]

I feel like a wanderer who was trudging along the dirt road when I paused, standing and staring at awe over the castle ahead. It is a majestic scene, where the sun mildly escapes the blanket of clouds to cast light onto the stone structure resting on calm sea or lake. This rather dichromatic work of brown and green exudes an earthly, natural feel to the scene of this edifice.

Whoever owns this castle must be a lord who seeks refuge from the wars that ravage the realm. Perhaps that lord wages these wars, and the castle is where he plots for the next battle. This wanderer will continue the road, but the castle and its scenery shall linger in the mind. Good work.

Thank you very much for your comment! wow you got a real talent for storytelling, as I read through your comment I could really envision the whole scene as I read. really enjoyed reading it, its like a perfect description of what I had in mind when I painted this piece.

Wish I had more comments like this!

Thank you as well for the compliment. I am glad you like my brief narrative. Perhaps someday, someone out there will express your work with a story. Surely I cannot be the only one who does this.
