What if hypothetically the shards were split up from their forced fused components and then were merged back together with their proper pieces into there proper gem forms?
The method Peridot used in the kindergarten cluster seemed to have done the trick but it was done haphazardly with gems that didn't match. If it was done properly with the proper gem shards, it should work I think.

It is. It was basically the gem version of "Human Centipede" and it went against everything Garnet was founded on. SHe understands the hatred Homeworld has of fusion, she's scared that they would even think about doing this let alone accomplish it, and it makes her wonder about her own value as a fusion. She's angry and upset but she doesn't know how to act.
And that's really scary.

Iβve actually heard that some people donβt like the fact that Garnet is a fusion. That it makes her βless of a characterβ. But, personally, I think it gives her MORE character. It explains why she identifies so much with Steven (being made up of more than one thing). It also gives her reactions a lot more meaning. Why she reacted so positively to βStevonnieβ, and so negatively to the forced fused gem parts.

This is well done. Very nice atmosphere.
My only comments are that Garnet's hand positions compared to the warp bubble in the first panel seems off. That, and adding a bit more intense/ambient lighting would give this an added emotional effect.

I'm pretty sure that's not an animation error given it lasts multiple frames and actually is animated changing form into the other gem. Each of those frames had to be drawn out deliberately.
