Hi Marcus,
When a critique us requested, I show no mercy, and sometimes use harder words than needed in order to drive in a point - no offense meant - just a wish to help improve in a similar situation and others.
There are trillions of flower shots, so any flower shot I view is judged very severely. Enough preface - to some points:
1. Too much of the image is in focus - the impact is in the color composition and it doesn't need anything in focus, however, nothing in focus is confusing and frustrating, so all you need in focus is the inside of the flower, with the lens wide open.
2. Cropped to square - I see no other reason than distractions. Any aspect ratio would have worked, so there could be a distance or angle that wouldn't require a crop.
3. Seems slightly overexposed - this may be my screen adjustment.
4. Green poppy stems are distracting - I would consider taking some out to improve impact - I think it is allowed in nature photography, certainly in fine-art, where the image is everything.

6. Overall - less D)F, more color saturation, some changes to the scene and composition would have improved this image.
