Eirini Stavropos. I first met her in a typical tourist coffee shop on the island of Zakynthos. I was on vacation, but I couldn’t go anywhere without my gear.

I’m a photographer. Well … mostly. I’m not a star of the business, but I have my customers. There are times, when I must count the coins until next month … and there are times, when I earned enough for a nice vacation. Like this, on Zakynthos.

Anyway, we’re talking about Eirini. She worked as a Barista in this shop. As I stepped in, there weren’t many customers … to be true, I was the only one.

“Kaliméra!” her dark eyes showed a little surprise as I tried my few Greek words on her.

“Kaliméra, ti kánete?” I had no clue what she was asking … maybe what she could fetch me.

“Tha íthela éna kaffé.” Her sweet and nice laughter showed me that I was wrong.

“We can speak in English, Sir.” – “My Greek … is it that bad?” – “Well I asked you ‘How are you?’ and you answered, ‘I’d like to have a coffee.’” At this point, her laughter infected me. A short time later, I had a good cup of this hot and black elixir in front of me.

“Are you a photographer?” she asked, pointing at my cameras. “I try to be one. May I take a picture of you?” – “You may … as long it stays in your camera and doesn’t appear on the internet.” – “What a pity … I was hoping …” – “… to find a new talent? Well I’m not interested.” – “Uh, why so harsh?” She sighed “Well. You aren’t the first. My friend Ekatarina agreed, hoping to become a supermodel. She went to Thessaloniki … last I heard of her was, that she is doing porn now.”

“Oh, I’m sorry … but there are black sheep in every business. And especially in mine.” She glanced at me, skeptically. “Yes, from time to time I do nude shootings, but not with every model. And I never ever try to convince a girl to do something she doesn’t want to.” – “But you are trying right now.” Her smile said ‘gotcha!’ “Ok, you got me … well, let me suggest something. I arrived this morning and I don’t know your island. But I want to see those spots, the ones tourists normally don’t see. So … I’m in need of a guide. Maybe … you could help me?”

“Maybe. And … surprise! You will have your camera with you …” – “Hmmmm no. No surprise … my camera is like a part of my body. I never go anywhere without her. And yes, I do want to shoot you.” She took my empty cup “And the next thing are promises …” – “No, I don’t promise you anything. Don’t call it ‘shooting’ … call it a ‘walk with the camera’. Here is my business card. Check my social media, my DA – gallery … check everything you want to.”

She took my card, but her face was more than skeptical. “You will have full control. You will see and approve every picture … you can even erase those you don’t want me to keep … without discussion from my side” – “Without discussion? And what ... if I erase them all?” – “That would be really a pity. But no discussions.” – “Ok.” She put my card into the pocket of her jeans “I’m staying at the Apollon Hotel and will be waiting for you tomorrow … at 10 a.m.?” – “8 a.m. or 6 p.m. … you don’t want to do sightseeing in the midday’s heat.” – “Ok, 6 p.m. Aaaand … could you please wear something … ummmm …” – “… sexy, I know. But don’t expect anything.”
