"Simba settled himself in the back of wet grass. The dew soaked into his fur, but he didn't mind. The feeling was soothing and refreshing, since he had been running for days now. His little heart still ached as he thought about his family at home. How was his mom? Was she doing well? Was she crying? He hoped that Sarabi wouldn't hurt too long about Mufasa. His mom deserved better than that, he thought.

Then he stopped to think about his dad. Where was he? Was he with the kings? Was he looking down, like he said he would someday? Simba looked to the dark sky. He sighed, hoping that Mufasa would hear him.

Mufasa's spirit descended that night to comfort his lost prince. He lifted a massive paw and closed his eyes tightly. The king sobbed without holding back as his paw only went through Simba with no resistance. He couldn't hug him. He couldn't tell him that he was alright. He couldn't have Simba mounted on his mane. He couldn't tell him that he loved him.

Simba whispered into the breeze, 'Goodnight, daddy... wherever you are.

I love you.'"
