The smart guards put a radio beacon in the gags, and are actually tracking them. When they get near the entrance, the guards will 'spot' them, and take them back to their cell. From there they will be put in more bondage, but just barely enough to let them escape.
After several attempts, the trio will not want to escape, as the only places left for more bondage would be 'internal'.
