Description I had a wonderful plan to have these two abducted and bound by forest spirits... and then I discovered that leaves and grass take *forever* to render. You may notice that this image is about half the resolution that I tend to post at - that's because this is just my initial test render. Having taken an hour just to produce this scale of image, I have sadly had to abandon my original plans and the scene.

is it possible to paste in imagery of the forest and insert detailed heroines into it?

Not if I want the shading to be even vaguely realistic

i think you could have got away with not having any rendered grass in the mid-background - the softness of focus and mottling of the ground itself would look realistic enough (also, generally grass doesn't grow well under pine trees anyway, because the ground is too dry and acidic)....
anyway, i seem to have digressed into gardening. um, so... the tricky thing, i find, is to manage the transition from detail (grass stems) to the less detailed background. have you considered rendering plenty of foreground grasses, then doing some postwork in photoshop or whatever to add a little mid-ground detail, linking the rendered grass and the flat ground sections? might ease up the processing a little :3

That's quite a useful suggestion I did consider reducing the amount of grass in the scene, but unfortunately the grass is a single prop that spans the entire environment, so I can't remove parts of it

I know that feeling. But it's a very nice image

I have no technical capabilities to use in responding. Wish I did.

But I'll simply say that, as a devoted viewer, I'm quite happy to wait until the cows come home for the right software to come along and allow you to show us what you had in mind. Not at all a problem!

It'll happen one day Once I'm back on my feet employment and health-wise, I intend to use commissions to fund a more powerful computer

My very best wishes for all of that to happen!

I can't know, just from looking at your WIP, where you were going with the image. What is there looks acceptable, and if you gave in another hour or two, a larger render would have looked pretty good. If you were thinking of a lot of frames in a series, I guess the time differential might be just too slow, but as I said, I can't tell from this single image where you were going with it.

I usually take a couple of days to set up a render and then let the render crank overnight, so 3-12 hours for a single image final is pretty standard for me. As far as the grass, like hair, if you shut off shadows and/or indirect lighting, your speed will increase dramatically and may not affect the image quality at all. Its pretty easy to do in Poser, I know little about DAZ|Studio so I am not sure of the ease of adjustment there. Might be worth a look. YMMV, my .02 FWIW.

It was a nice idea, at least. Hopefully, you'll manage to get some upgraded hardware so you can actually go through with it someday
