Description Lady GaGa

Drawn on Bristol

Time taken approx 4 hours in total.

I've not drawn for a long time now and trying to get back to how I was ... Looks like it will take longer than I first thought so many things I need to touch up on.

Lovely rendering! I can tell you put a great amount of effort and time into this! At first glance I had thought this was a picture in gray-scale rather then an actual drawing.

I love the tiny details on the ring and your shading is so soft and smooth. What's the difference between using normal plain paper and Bristol Board?

Thank you I find there is alot of difference between normal paper and bristol board. First it's thicker and you can work into it a lot more than normal and it's so smooth I find it easy to work with for sure! I'd definately advise you to try some

Thank you! I think it's just the blending thats the hardest thing to get right I've been drawing for 5 years and when I first started out my portraits were rubbish all blotchy. Then I found bristol board and since drawing on that everything is so smooth and natural also I found blending stumps for the smaller areas. These are not expensive at all! Grab some and try it out. I wouldn't recomment blending with your fingers though because the natural grease in them can leave some quite harsh marks on the paper, try wrapping tissue around your finger while you blend Hope that helps a little.

You're welcome! Oh I have no probs with blending..I think I have issues with the semetry of the face and at times my depth perception..I just cant seem to get it right..I will grab some blending materials though anything has got to be better then tissues!

With the depth I'd suggest just layers and layer. instead of working on just one part do the whole thing in layers and then the places that need more depth or distinction go over again work from light to dark and highlight things like lips after with a mechanical eraser

I've never tried it myself but have you tried the squaring up the whole drawing into smaller squares? might work with the semetry?

For the smaller areas I use these blending stumps I found in my local art shop they are not expensive and most people I know use them too. Before I used to use cutips (the ear cleaning things) in larger areas they do not work as good.
