Weeeelll! I became a fursuiter! :3This is my VERY FIRST FURSUIT and I went out for the first time with this one yesterday. I was in a comic exhibition with many cosplay and costumes. So many people wanted to make a photo with me.
It was soooo beautiful when I met some children who liked me :3 I want to do it again soon!

So, once you had your chara design down (I'm guessing you did in the beginning, or at least what you wanted it to look like), where did you start? What did you do first

I started with feetpaws. It was the most simple part of the suit, so I tried, improving to shape the foam (I had no idea of HOW to shape that material). I noticed that with scissors it was very simple, so I did two identical feetpaws. I added the foam on very cheap shoes, to make feetpaws comfortable.
Then I started shaping the head (the muzzle, first) from a cubic piece of foam. I didn't covered the whole head, to make it lighter (using the balaklava method) [link] . In the same time, I worked with handpaws, using fabric for pawpads [link] .
Finally I made the tail, simply sewing the fur and filling it with stuffing.
In the end, I furred the head, gluing and sewing the pieces together. I can swear that seams can't be seen, and it is my biggest satisfaction.

And how would you say the ventilation is with the balaclava? Were you ever overheated?

It's very hot inside, but the balaclava isn't the major reason. Foam, fur and closed mouth make a closed place where there's not much excange of hair. The best thing you can do, is to install a little fan in the proximity of the muzzle, to allow air to circulate. I didn't this because my fursuit isn't professional, but I hold that costume for about 4 hours without any problem. Just a little inevitable hot xD

Ahhh that makes sense. I'm trying to decide whether I should attempt on a moveable jaw or go with fixed... I've read moveable jaws give much better air flow, but I don't have the right voice for my character so I won't be talking. Fixed would be a bit easier to create and it would be the obvious choice if I won't be speaking, but I'm worried about air flow and how hot it would be in the head.

If you make it fixed but open, you won't have any problem with air. Anyway, moving jaw can be funny also without talking. Opening and closing the mouth with movements of body, makes it all very pleasant.

Tornando seri (disse la tipa con un uccello in testa) com'è stare in mezzo alla gente in fursuit? Immagino sia meravigliosamente divertente ma sono comunque ficcanaso e voglio sapere per filo e per segno tutto quello che ti viene in mente sulla tua esperienza....ma come diamine parlo oggi? D:

Ti accorgi di essere veramente furry quando ti metti una fursuit e vorresti non togliertela più (a parte per il caldo infernale).
Scherzi a parte, è davvero un'esperienza meravigliosa. Puoi comportarti come ti piace, salutare gente a caso, il tutto ispirando solo simpatia. Ma questo soltanto perchè ero ad una fiera del fumetto, dove la gente ha una mentalità un po' più aperta al gioco e non mirata a parlar male delle persone per la loro originalità. Diciamo che lì l'originalità viene premiata senza mezzi termini. Penso che se andassi in giro così per il mio paese non sarebbe proprio la stessa cosa (anche se un giorno ci proverò u.u).
In ogni caso è un'esperienza da provare, che consiglio vivamente a tutti

Non sono particolarmente fan della fursuit, ma ammetto che questo lo trovo piacevole, forse perchè lo trovo più snello e pratico rispetto la maggior parte.
