Description
My quest to learn Illustrator continues, with varying levels of success. I deleted and redid that background about seven times.. he's gone through standing in the middle of a city, in the middle of a bramble patch, in the middle of a swamp, on a cliff, and finally several different versions of standing in.. whatever it is that he's standing in now. A swamp? A jungle? I don't know, but he sure is standing in it.
Um, anyway, it's Dawn, one of the main characters from my story. And yer, he's one of the folks from the hermaphroditic race, so "he" isn't really a "he", but a "s/he", but it makes life so much simpler to just call him he. (PS: He's not supposed to have nipples. Don't ask about them. : D)
Uh, I'm tired, so I'll go away now.

This is quite nice, and having tried Illustrator, I really think you work well with the medium. The strongest points of the picture to me are the folds in the fabric hanging from it's arms (very nicely rendered) and it's lower torso area (the hand scratching, hipbones- all look really sharp.) My only suggestions are to make the pinky on the right hand longer, because, since it is a bit short, it looks almost as though the tree is kind of hiding it (probably just me being nuts, I know.) The tree behind him to the left isn't as interesting to me as the right one, I think becaue there are three highlighted bumps all in a row, visually... if they were a bit off from each other, I think it might add interest. Really, this is hard to find anything to critisize- it's very well done. The only other suggestion I can offer is to make it's eyes slightly brighter then it's skin tone, to sort of animate it's face. Very impressive for someone still learning the program, congrats!

I like the background. It looks kinda swampish to me - those dangling vines are awesome. And the green color reminds me of a swamp, but then it works for a jungle too, I s'pose. Anyway, very nice piece. The colors work well together.

levels?!?! This is wonderful ^_^
Very nice use of shading and curves.
I think the backround reminds me of a swamp, With vines stretching down to touch the bog. How long did this take you? Must have been long for it to look that good, I thought this was a painting until you said " Ilustrator ".
It's just that good, and so ends my comment :d

Overall the picture is good. Compared to some of your other work though, the use of color in the background is just sort of disappointing. It's indecisive. Of course in your introduction to the picture you explained that, but I read that after I already looked at the picture. So I suppose you should probably decide WHERE exactly you want the character to be. Is he in a swamp? or a jungle? or going into an underground cavern? Unless YOU like the indecissive look, I mean hey some people might think it's cool. You know it gives a sense of mystery and all. I just personally like some of your other pictures with the more vibrant backgrounds. For instance Dreamer of Fire, where you can tell the back ground is probably sky all lit up by some sort of fire.
But I do like the almost water color like effect on his skin and clothing. Good luck with Illustrator in the future.

I like 'im. The backround turned out well, so the time was well spent. He seems more at home in a woody place. ^^ Though... scratching himself kinda makes me cringe. x.x; Nice job!

The colors really work well here, nicely done. The figure sorta has a feminine face and and male body so the working of the hermaphroditic traits are working.
Nice work on this you're really learnging Illustrator well.

i like the 'unline-ness' of the pic, unlike my artwork, i always need to have lines.... the way you've colored is beautiful too! illustrator seems hard...

Veeeeeery cool, especially considering you did that freehand (I'm assuming you didn't have a picture to copy). I really love the background and the face

I really like this piece, Kitty! I was never a fan of working with Illustrator... It's kinda tricky to use.
But you did a great job with it! I love the way you shaded him. It's body is also very interesting. Strange that he/she's looking at something so pleasant and simple as a flower while digging his claws into his skin. Ouch. > _O Very nice contrasting elements.
And you did a great job on the swamp/jungle background... it's very intriguing!

Go away as you strip, eh? My I love this. The gradient in the background pulls it together in my opinion, and the little sparkly bubbles around the flower are lovely. The look he has makes you think he's all nice and serene before you look down at the nails. How I loathe Illustrator...you did a wonderful job.

I don't know very much about vector art. So I can't really give a critique of any sort. The vines in the background are really nice though, I think they are the best feature of the BG. As for the character itself I really like what you did with the chest.
