Yeah, the UAE (along with other small Arab states) tends to hire people from overseas (or Expats as they are called I think, I'll correct this if not) to do various types of manual labour for them. As far as I know, they are NOT citizens of that country and a lot of these Expats are from south Asia, especially among Muslims.

Blame us for this one. After the British empire freed the Blacks from slavery, they still wanted to use cheap labour to work in their colonies. So they brought Indian workers with them and worked in places like South Africa and of course, what was known as "British Guyana". As for the Urdu speakers, well based on what I read, either it's from Pakistani immigrants or just the fact that Urdu and Hindi are more or less the same language (Hindustani) prior to (and arguably still) the independence of Pakistan and India.
