Description Finally, a proper single-page quicksand comic! My goal was to attempt "traditional" western comics formatting, which I believe uses page size of 6.75" x 10.50"?

I've posted here the 144 DPI version. PREMIUM CONTENT: You can buy 50% more pixels 300 DPI version in SIDE BAR for  $1.

I did not want to sacrifice on art quality so I ended up spending > 6 hours on this. But I'm also learning the ropes in Manga Studio 5.

Also experimented with screentones. Its more manga-like than grayscale, but they are kind of obsoleted by grayscale? Maybe I should have done color, or grayscale?

My next project will be less silly in nature

Thanks!! I made it up as I went along but I was generally thinking 2 panels ahead

This is very good representation of my sense of humor.. The main girl is kind of a dumb blonde but her shift in attitude really cracks me up!

This is great.

One comic page that represents 99% of all of quicksand drawings on the 'net.

You can't logically identify either the how or why of characters winding up in the middle of a pit (without footprints, even).

This is the best explanation.

Bravo.

Many of 'your quicksands' have an almost playful 'splooshiness' about them and that is well-suited in conveying excitement and the 'quicksand theme park' idea.  Sometimes that 'crowds'-a bit- the sybaritic enjoyment I derive of many engulfing situations you illustrate.  To me, this page signals something different; it denotes maturation and coalescing of your graphic development processes!  The surety of your line work becomes precise yet stays fresh as its birth on sketches.  The 'splooshiness' is marrying more strongly with the embracing-ness and suctioning-ness of the quicksand than with anything of yours I've perused before.... maybe it's got something to do with the demands/opportunities of imaging tools and programs you are working with BUT I know, too, these are also aptitudes and 'calls' that stand independent of programmatic knowhow and the processes of getting mastery of them to work for you.  Kudos on the ever-strengthening of your illustrative work!  I'll keep being your loyal fan!  I think the element of playfulness is in the DNA of your style.... almost side-splitting comicality in the 1st 4 frames... 4th frame reminds me of everything being closed in October, 1492 because of Columbus Day, lol!

You could be a professional art critic, you are very good at describing the essence of an illustration! Thanks for your high value thoughtful words, they are valuable because they are thoughtful!

Thanks!! I guess you were introduced to quicksand by QSA's old comic ... I hope I can make such an influential work as that one

this is good for a quicksand manga,

also manga is often greyscale on most pages, that is how they fit within their budget most of the times, with color being used for front and back pages as well as a few pages near the start for some manga

You seem to have the panels working ok.

Sadly for me I don't use money online.

As long as you keep on doing what you want to do, you are making progress.

Ah, thanks for your comments. I don't really read much manga or comics - I know I should read more, just to get used to layout and stuff It's a whole art in itself..

Yep, the girls are so bored during summer vacations... The idea with quicksand seems really promising!

Great comic, really! I'd love to hear your opinion about Manga Studio. Would it be hard to switch to it from Photoshop?

Silkyfriction In reply to Billie-Bonce [2014-07-27 02:12:34 +0000 UTC]

Ive seen some pretty spirited arguments. Half people seem to think Photoshop is better for making manga, but personally I think Manga Studio 5 is better for digital drawing and painting, period!!

MS5 is it's US name, but it's actually Japanese software called Clip Studio Paint which Japanese company now decided to market too.

Whichever name of software you get, it's identical (MS5 = clip studio paint).

It has a lot of features and a lot of customization but still feels less bulky than Photoshop. I love it!

What started as childish challenge ends in some dangerously deep quicksand, very nicely done!

I just wonder a bit about the girls in teh background, are they friends? Random people?

Oh yeah they are just random people who happen to follow the heroine on her quicksand crusade
Sorry to reply to your comment so slowly
