I really like drawing quicksand as a sort of vortex / whirlpool. It lends to its supernatural quality, and really illustrates that it is voraciously sucking things in.

While they might, in actuality,Β belong to the shadowy folds of the quicksand suction, the mud strokes that cross her left forearm in this picture enhances the effect of almost surreal suction power.Β  Adds a sense of splatting up from trapped air escaping. Great call, witting or not!

Β

I recall at different points you articulated you wanted to be prolific and even wanted to draw women sinking in all manner of mire and quicksand all the time.Β  You're showing us that is exactly what you seem to be doing and I hope you are having a total blast!Β  And you're getting better by leaps and bounds and not getting stuck by many of them!

Quicksand + Vortex =

Well done Silky, I like that premise of the additional suction, and added difficulty in escaping... if escaping is even possible with the way it seems to draw everything and everyone in without mercy like a whirlpool! >:3 So much for just laying on your belly or back and trying to float.

Hehe.. we wouldn't want it to be too easy to escape! I imagine it would be a pretty slow-moving whirlpool though... sludgey and thick

Ahh very nice and good use of the angle The spiral motion makes it look tighter for her to get out, hehee

I heard this kind of angle with tilted horizon line is called "dutch angle". I guess it makes it seem a little more unsteady.. Maybe like the viewer is also standing on unstable ground..

It's a quicksand whirlpool!

Whirlpools are very freaky things all by themselves. Combine with quicksand = FREAKINESS OVERLOAD!

Vortex effect works best with a bowl-shaped depression in the ground.. Maybe I will draw that next!

Ropes offer hope, but are you really a strong enough dude to defeat the terrifying suction factor?

always a dramatic part of any quicksand story and artwork, it is how the dangers of quicksand can suck you in quickly and deeper.

Scientists say quicksand doesn't suck things down. Bunch of LIARS!

It amazes me how much you can capture with so few pen strokes.

Thanks!! Most of the DA drawing tools are kind of useless. Pen and Brush are about the only decent tools.

I am still better at drawing on paper but I seem to be having pretty good outcomes from drawing on my tablet.
