Description The squishy muddy estuary seemed like a fun, adventurous place to walk. But she suddenly found herself surrounded by liquid mounds of earth, oozing and shifting around her in such a way that she could not escape. Liquid mud flowed around her legs and sucked them down. She was trapped in a dangerous quicksandy ditch, where surrounding muck pooled around her faster than she could dig herself out!

EDITED: Coloring complete!! Didn't want to go much beyond simple cel-shading here...

Sorry I didn't draw anything this last week! Thought I'd better submit something!

Outstanding piece!  She looks truly trapped in the mud's suction.

Her facial expression and unkempt hair really make this piece.  She looks like someone who did, indeed, thought the vast expanse of the estuary flats would be an adventurous place to walk.  Even when her feet would sink into the mud and she'd find difficulty pulling them back up, she probably felt these obstacles were part of the adventure.

But, when she found herself in a situation where her feet and legs sank in deep and refused to budge, I can see her as being someone who'd get annoyed and embarrassed, and would put up a fight to get free...  until she found herself stuck hip-deep in the mudflat, unable to dig herself out, and slowly sinking deeper.  Perhaps this image represents where she finally realizes just how much trouble she's really in.

Oh, yeah, and then there's that matter of the tide coming back in.

Love what you did with the background.  She truly looks to be far out on the mudflats and sunk deep enough into the depression of the mire so as to be not seen from the shore.

Thanks for sharing!

I love how you expand the story of my pictures!! Sadly whatever adventure she was having seems to have gotten slowed down by these deep & sticky circumstances!!

With quicksand it's either sink or swim, and it's really hard to swim in that stuff, soooo... >:3

Whether its good or bad end, bottomless pits of sucking quicksand always come across as pretty awesome! Glad you like!!

I never know which I love more, your art or the descriptions you write for them.

She's in a TON of trouble, obviously. The next few seconds are so important for her, it might be her last chance to get herself into a position to escape or at least be rescued. One wrong move and she'll be sucked in too deep to hope for either!

Hmm, yes she is kind of at that urgent depth where escape is becoming a sketchy proposition!
I know I'm a pretty good writer and need to put my writing skills to use more!

As I may have said before, your art work set it up, and your descriptions are that final nail in the coffin that does it for me!

I know I'm doing good when my work's so good it PUTS YOU IN THE GROUND! Funny I can do this by putting girls in the ground, in a manner of speaking...

My descriptions are very short to be nails in a coffin! I should probably use longer nails!

I sank to my groin in thick, sticky mud at a beautiful, quiet estuary today and the dimensionality of THIS swirling, yielding river-scape is a real aspect of many of these places being unpredictable!  Here, the swirling, spiraling quality suggested adds wonderful drama and fantasy to the experience and this vortex is the most satisfying I have seen you do in having massive mud suction expressed.  The quality of even your sketch/drawing is clearly a sure foundation for any color work you might do.  Of course, many of us can ride a vivid ride on many of your drawings alone!  When you visit them, the miniature landscapes of estuaries sometimes evidence unbelievable turbulence within the overall serenity of the large view!

Keep enjoying whatever you do and the products of those moments will please us all!

You really went sinking like this!?! Wow you are so lucky!!!

.. to be alive, I mean!!

Seriously.. I wish I lived next to an estuary!!

I was afraid this pic is a little similar to others I've drawn such as "Quicksand Suction" but I guess people are not tired of this quicksand suction whirlpool theme

Great to see this in color!  The suction of the whorl is better organized in creating a sensual relationship with the woman than any before.  Well-done 'variations on themes' are slow to tire some of us out.  Yours never do and you keep the variety going well enough!

Real life tidal mud can be scary but can be delicious if you know the mud.

If this picture were my mud, I'd be gone.  This is very realistic even if it not!

Estuaries seem very amazing with how the mud forms many hills and contours -- its not a boring flat mudflat, but rather a lumpy dough with hills and valleys to explore. (Not that I've ever had the occasion to explore such a place!)  Why do people get stuck in such places, is it just because of floppy unnecessary footwear?  I'd guess that going barefoot would result in less danger of becoming stuck...

Syrtonin In reply to Silkyfriction [2013-09-18 06:51:06 +0000 UTC]

Going barefoot takes away the problems of increased suction on boots and shoes and annoyance of losing a flip-flop or moccasin.  The feel of mud oozing over your feet and up your ankles is marvelous.  But then there are other dangers like hidden layers of dead, woody stubble from previous years of dead reeds hidden in the mud and capable of injuring flesh and, with tidal flats, bits of submerged broken clam and crab shells that can slice like knives if stepped on or grazed.  It sometimes takes a while before you can get an estuary to give you a completely loving relationship.  And it is not boring.

To me, a lot of it is in the eyes...If an artist gets the eyes right, the rest seems to work

And tell me about it! It took me years before I realized people had chins

Eyes are usually small enough to make detailing them out in full anime sparkles kind of tricky for me.
Maybe the eyes in my artwork are anime "easy-mode"
