*allenmad inspired me to re-do something I'd done in the past (she re-did one of her pixel-art pieces to show how much she'd progressed, seen here: [link] ), and it made me want to look back, and see how I've progressed as well. When I saw the old version of this, I couldn't help but thinkman.
This is awful.
And I really badly wanted to do it again, because I never felt like I'd got the right atmosphere across, and expressions felt so... plain. Like there was no feeling at all. It's here: [link] Sucks, don't it?
Still, it was really nice to see and do this again. Just something a little different.

Wow, that's really nice. I love your linework, and I can't get enough of the detail on the "wrong" creature.
I really like the concept too. I'm not sure what, if any, message you were trying to get across, but what I immediately thought of were people unable to accept their appearance. You know, they look into the mirror and see something much, much worse than the reality.

And thank you for giving your own interpretation, I was hoping that someone would. When I drew this the first time, my intention was for people to have their own views on what's being shown, and for there to not be a definite one--I have my own, but everyone elses is just as valid.
My interpretation of this was always about seeing the badness or evil in yourself. So, like what you said, only reversed--when people think they're beautiful, and perhaps they are, on the outside, but everyone has their own... wrongness. Everyone has a wrong side to them, and I wanted to show someone or something in the process of realizing it. Maybe they're not as great as they thought they were.

oh my goodness OvO the lineart had nothing on this >w< The effects and general mood the piece gives is so much more impact on the viewer than the old one
the only thing I have to note is that if his shadow is up against the wall in the reflection shouldn't it be against the wall on the original or vice versa? unless of course if you meant to do this please disregard this part
