Irena was a happy-go-lucky girl who always wanted to help other people. One day, a scientist named Dr. Smith came to her school looking for a subject for his experiment. He was trying to create a pill that would turn people into mermaids, but no one willing to try it.

Irena's friend, Sarah, told Dr. Smith about Irena. Dr. Smith went to Irena's house and explained his experiment to her. Irena was hesitant at first, but she eventually agreed to help him.

The next morning, Dr. Smith met Irena at the river. He gave her a pill to swallow. As soon as she swallowed the pill, Irena felt a tingling sensation all over her body. She looked down and saw that her legs had turned into a tail. She was a mermaid!
