It's possible, of course, that Lily cast the Shrinking Charm herself-- the magical equivalent of rolling up her skirt at the waist. Lavender Brown and Pansy Parkinson probably did the same. JKR herself says Lily Evans was one of the popular girls, and what popular girl of the 1970s would keep to an antiquated dress code calling for knee-length skirts? Certainly not someone from the rule-breaking House of Gryffindor-- or the devious House of Slytherin, for that matter.

I always think of lily as an innocent girl and that's why Snape likes her but yeah, if she's popular like that then she probably did cast that spell = w ="

Lily changed? Changed from what? Nothing indicates Lily was ever socially awkward like Severus or Petunia. Even before anyone knew she magical, Lily seems to have been pretty, charming, bright, and likable. Being a favorite probably came to Lily so naturally she had no idea she was doing it, at Hogwarts or anywhere else.
That's doubtless why she didn't realize the size of the sacrifice she expected Severus to make for her: to give up the three friendly housemates heβd managed to acquire in his five years at Hogwarts. Lily could replace friends who had become a social liability (as she replaced Severus himself with James and the Marauders) but such an easy facility at friend-making is not common. Severus certainly didnβt have that gift. He would have been left isolated, with nobody but Lily, who had that very day shown that her true loyalty lay elsewhere.
Forgive me for wandering so far from skirt-shrinking spells. I just saw the final film yesterday, and am feeling a bit melancholy about our beloved Potions Master and his unjust fate. Alas, poor Sev! Your Isolde was unworthy of your faithful and devoted heart. *sob*
