Indeed it was. I was only small at the time, but I remember it being much better than any of the more recent Sonic cartoons. (Because it had darker themes. As a child, I almost found it scary... but it was still awesome.)

Yeah, now everything is all censored and shit. Haha! No censory there! But yeah, back in the day even children books had some pretty violent themes to them. I remember one of them to this very day! It takes the clasic theme "wolf in sheeps clothing."
Yeah, so there was this wolf who wanted to eat the sheep, right? But he was sick of the farmer always throwing sticks, stones, and shooting at him so he decided to disguise himself as a sheep. Dont really remember much else of the story except the end. Turns out the farmer killed the wolf, thinking he was a sheep, so he could eat him! And it was ILLISTRATED!!! It showed this bloody trail leading up a dirt hill where you could see the farmer draging the dead wolfs body to some shed by one of its back legs. FREAKY! Yeah, the moral of the story said something like "Don't go pretending to be someone/something you are not because you'll find problems that you didn't know existed" or some crazy stuff like that...
