the problem is that politicians think that they can dupe us into not noticing things - they shelved SOPA, then took it off the shelf within the week! They do not think they have accountability, they don't think that the voters will turn against them, it's just... entitlement, you know?

Ah, yes. And then we, as Americans, tend to give them reason to think such. The fact of the matter is that politician's depend entirely upon us. ESPECIALLY the House of Representatives. Americans have become excruciatingly complacent in our government. They forget that we have rights to: protest, speak out, REFUSE to vote for someone. They think, "Oh, my area is full of Republicans/Democrats, therefore my vote won't count." When, in truth, there are FAR more independents than most realize. Hundreds and hundreds of Bills get shelved and then pulled right back off. But we Americans don't always pay attention. Regardless, the fact remains that if enough of the voting-age Americans repeal their votes or call for a recall of their government officials they will be scared witless. All a politician has are the votes he gets from his people, that's the heart of his power. It's IMPERATIVE that we NEVER forget that. And I'm afraid most of us have. We're a democratic republic for a reason. We need to exercise that.

Sure why not? I'm sure telling actual Americans how they can help would be more useful than simply linking to articles about how it hasn't actually been shelved would be more productive. BOTH. BOTH IS GOOD. (Sadly I'm not American so -cries- my knowledge in the area you just presented is weak at best)
I'm sort of posting everywhere on the SOPA/PIPA deviations so they stay near the front pages haha /fail.

That's all right by me! And no worries! I'm American, but most Americans know very little about the actual government or what they can do. In fact, a lot of foreigners know more about our own government than we do. A fact I'm not proud of. But anywhere you can help is FANTASTIC!

Apparently on the BBC this morning there was an indication that if SOPA goes through, the UK will adopt it. I'm from Wales and I was like FFFF-
