Simple and effective. Is the left side open for type or other graphics? Although interesting "as is", could easily be used for functional design like advertising.

It wasn't done especially to have anything put on the left side. I just quite like having areas of negative space in pictures. I think in this one the blackness helps with the fear factor.
I like the idea of adding text to the other side. When I get a chance I might have a go at turning this into a movie poster.

Exactly as I supposed; I think a movie poster; wrap around cover for a notebook, paper back, or comic; or case for a laptop, ipad, etc. might work, with a little extra thought on how to produce such a thing.
