Okay, I mighta sorta gone pony-crazy. What can I say? The style is just so much fun!This is Applejack, one of the ponies from the new My Little Pony cartoon. I like her because she's honest and loyal and a really hard worker.
Someone recommended the show to me and after mild skepticism I finally watched an episode. I have to say for a kids show its not half bad. At least they've brought back the morals and values that TV SHOULD be teaching young viewers. And I'll admit, when I was a kid, one of my favorite toys was a My Little Pony mare and her foal with matching rainbow manes.
So, to all the pony fans out there, I tip my hat.

To be honest, I have been a fan of MLP since early to mid teens~ thou I would have never admitted to it at the time. I would search for anything new on MLP off and on through out the years but never would have hopped that someone would have made such a fun and interesting set of characters that would spawn a whole new group of audience now called Bronies.
Its nice to have others that share a similar interests~

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you watch Winter Wrap Up. It's the episode that marks a distinct change in style and animation quality and more importantly, has one of the best musical numbers I have ever seen in animation. The sheer amount of effort that went into the series is remarkable. I love it.
And yeah, Applejack is great, second only to Rainbow Dash.

I...sort of...watched them all. Winter wrap up is a great episode ^^, I was a bit shocked when I heard that most people who watched it aside from 5-9 year old girls, were 18-25 year old boys.

Yeah, basically it all started on 4chan, where some people "introduced" the show with the intent to mock it, because pastel-ponies are gay or whatever. So people started using pony pictures and image macros and basically spammed them everywhere "for the lulz". This caused anything pony-related to be banned on 4chan, but some people actually took a liking to the show and in turn rebelled against the pony-ban by posting even more pony-pictures until they got the hint and made their own ponychan.
That's how the initial hype started in a nutshell. Now, since most of the 4chan-readers fit into the span of 18-25 years, this is the demography that got exposed to ponies the most, before the series even started.
So, basically, the internet hyped ponies and since the intended target-demography does not browse 4chan (or at least I hope so), there now is a completely different demography than expected.
I personally don't find it strange at all for people to be enthralled by cute things, regardless of their age or gender, but yeah, it is kind of surprising nonetheless.
I hope that made some sense, it's 6 in the morning and I've been up all night writing an essay and this comment is already long enough as it is and is this even how you use the word demographic idunnogodwhycantistoptyping

I have to be honest, I felt the same thing as you when someone first spoke about the series. It piqued my curiosity when I kept hearing that the largest group of people who watched it were adult males. It's certainly a well done children's show with an enjoyable cast of female characters. I'm truthfully looking forward to the next episode. XD I think the great thing too is that this show has also given me some ideas for activities and songs to do with my daycare internship!
