Description
Display of Power: The PhoenixRed flames licked at the gritty stone of the once majestic castle that stood within a ruined circle of mortar and stone that had made up the finest kingdom in the land during the Old Age of Immortals. The sun was just beginning to peak over the snow-capped mountains; brilliant colors of orange and red making the miracle about to happen that much more wonderful. Upon the highest tower of the castle a majestic animal awaited its rebirth.
Feathers of blood red shimmered as though coated with chips from a rainbow. The soft down beneath the bird’s thick feathers prickled unseen with a power unknown too most. An impressive tail as long as an ice dragons fangs, swayed with the soft breeze that blew the scent of fire on the wind. A long neck stretched upward, gathering the power of the rising sun towards his body. Onyx eyes sparkled with something that was unnatural in the ruins of the castle.
The phoenix screeched a mighty call, the shrill sound echoing across the hills and causing the many animals to scurry from its magnificence. The screech was suddenly extinguished as though halted by a quick slit of the throat. Behind the wonderful creature a small dragon of unimpressive size removed its sharp fangs from the phoenixes back. The fangs were elongated but began to shrink as the blood on them was absorbed into the bone. But as the small creature turned to leave it didn’t realize the phoenix was far from dead.
A brilliant light, brighter than the rising sun shot out from the place the phoenix had once nested. The dragon, seeing the light whirled about. With an unimpressed stare the dragon watched as the phoenix, what had once been a beautiful bird was now ashes that floated to the stone. But as the dragon turned back around a shrill call like nails on metal cut the silence of the morning. The dragon looked up in alarm, thinking that the phoenixes mate had come to avenge its partner’s death. He lifted his wings to thrust into the wind but was unable to complete the natural action.
Another phoenix stood in the place of the deceased one, its sharp teeth clamped around the head of the small dragon. It began to devour the creature that had once killed him. As the phoenix gorged on his murderer, its feathers shone even brighter.
A golden eagle nearby watched the spectacle. He flapped his wings aggressively at the phoenix, scolding it for showing off its display of power of belatedly.
