Description
This was something I started a year ago and finally decided to slap it together and finish it. The mermaid is supposed to be Jess, , from a year ago. XDThe three dolphins all have names two, I guess I got bored. From top to bottom they are Talhi, Cheeky, and Skittles. (so original aren't I
) "Jess" has painted and drawn on them to help tell the difference between them according to their personalities. Oh, and Skittles was born with a defect in his coloration and Cheeky has a scar. *cough*My least favorite part is her main outfit. I don't know what I was thinking when I started it and tried to fix it as best I could. >_> Oh, and if you see this Jess, you are allowed to use this picture however you want since you are the subject of it.

wow, i like the colors! now, despite anything, the colors do look flat, like, not too much light and shadow of color going on. other than that it looks really good!

Thanks, but yeah, I totally agree with you on the flat thing. Come to think of it, I'm not quite sure how shadows work underwater, any suggestions? =]

XD hum, i would think of the wavy-boxes for the light (you know how you can see them in the bottom of the pool?) and , of course the shadow on the object, and usually, in water, there's a shadow underneath the object thats all streaky... example...

well its kinda of a mix between swan princess and little mermaid but the girl turns into a calico cat (paint splotches lol) and follows this guy around but can't sum up the courge to talk to him... she has a human form as well but only if she wants to be seen.... she mainly takes the form of the calico when she's out of the water.... its still a work in progress but does it sound good so far???

Yeah, I think it sounds wonderful. Maybe just a bit complicated though. So this girl can be in the form of a mermaid, human, or cat right?

The only suggestion I would make would be to get rid of one of those forms, probably the mermaid or human. But then again, I don't really know how the story would work then.

Awww that is so cute..I love the way you composed the dolphins behind her, the brush, and the side fins and stuff. I didn't even notice the marker blemishes until you pointed them out, lol. Those are marker, right? What brand do you use?

I mainly use copic markers on my drawings, it's pretty much the only good brand that I know of. I'm glad you like the brush part cause I was a little worried about that, although I'm worried more so about the paint. I still don't know if I like it or not, what do you think?

Ah, I see what you mean. I think it'd help if the paint were shinier, or had a chunky feel to it. Unless it's supposed to be a sort of watercolor paint, then it'd be thin and sort of blend into the brush hairs like it's doing right now. The blob of paint falling off it is kinda large too, but I think it's best to move from a large stroke to smaller speckles and spots. Overall I think it was a success, and a good trial run for illustrating a paintbrush.

I'll have to get some copics now. I wasn't going to since they're so expensive, but it seems like everyone has them but me! And their work always comes out so good!

Haha, I know what you mean. I feel guilty every time I get new ones. XP But you shouldn't think you work is bad because it's not markers. I mean, you already have a lot of skills with colored pencils and I've seen some pretty darn amazing color pencil artists, like *LunarSymphony , who you can hardly tell that's what they use sometimes. I guess I'm just saying don't let the colored pencils go cause you're so good with them! (although I guess that's probably I skill you wouldn't really lose though, I'm just so silly XD)
But I have to say also that, once you get used to them, copics are amazing!
