Description I had the opportunity to ride an older schoolmaster while his owner was on vacation. We played around with shoulder-ins, mediums, and leg yielding.

mediums? ive read a thousand books on riding and training yet i have never heard that term. whats it mean?

Mediums is just a common term for medium trot. A medium trot is between the working trot and the extended trot. A medium trot is not faster but has greater push and lift. COnsequently, by riding a few strides of medium and then coming back to a working trot you can increase hock flexion and strengthen the connection.
