Key:
(y/n) – Your name
“WHAT?! NO KILLING FOR A MONTH?!”
Protests and shouts filled the game room when Slender had finished telling the group what was going to happen. You stood silently behind him with your hands folded in front of you and pale eyes sweeping the room. Jeff was the loudest of the bunch, yelling profanities and demanding to know why they could not kill for a month. You felt they were acting like children.
Slender held up a hand to signal silence, and most of them quieted down, but a few continued to mumble things under their breath. You weren’t going to repeat some of the things you heard. Slender’s voice rumbled in everyone’s ears.
“A problem has come up, and we are trying to fix it. (y/n) here will tell you exactly what is wrong.”
At the mention of your name you stepped forward, and that was when everyone seemed to notice you. Jeff and a few others you did not recognize scowled at you, figuring you were the reason they couldn’t kill. That wasn’t necessarily untrue. Your haunted and hollow voice sent shivers down their spines.
“Some of you may recognize me, some of you may not. The name I am most commonly known by is Death, or the Grim Reaper.”
An elf who resembled Link yelled out, “What does that have to do with anything?!” You turned your gaze to him and he faltered slightly at the emptiness. Everyone could feel the annoyance radiating off of you. It seemed that was now a common emotion when it came to this group of rag tag killers.
“If you hadn’t interrupted me, you would’ve known by now. So if you ηλίθιοι (idiots) want to know why you cannot kill for a month, do not interrupt me.”
A few of them shifted in their seats, obviously uncomfortable with the way things were turning out. You blamed themselves for that. Well, most of them.
“Now, as I was going to say before I was so rudely interrupted, you cannot kill for a month. This is because the people who are dying are dying in ways they aren’t supposed to. For example, the girl Jeffery and Jack killed was supposed to be hit by a car. Instead, she was killed by them. This would not be disastrous if it weren’t for the fact that death would be altered.”
You paused, thinking of a better way to explain it and make it simpler.
“That means that if someone, say you, BEN, tried to kill someone, fate would change what happens to the person because their death would be altered. You stab the unfortunate human who was instead supposed to kill themselves, and Fate decided that because you are related to Death that the person shall live or die in a different way later on in life. So, basically, the person you tried to kill wouldn’t die. And because you all live off of killing, you would simply fade into nothing, just like I would.”
You paused again to gauge their reactions. The most common emotion was nervousness, and you could detect the faint smell of fear. At least that meant they were listening, and were not simply blowing off your words as if they were nothing. A little girl, who you knew to be Sally, raised her hand. You nodded to her.
“Um… I still don’t understand why we can’t kill for a month…”
You clasped your hands behind your back and stood a little straighter. Sally put her hand down and the rest looked at you expectantly.
“Because, child, we will be fixing this. We will influence Fate by fixing the deaths. So if someone was supposed to be stabbed, we would stab them. If they were supposed to be hit by a car, we will hit them with a car. We will fix Death.”
A monochrome clown raised his hand this time. It appeared his name was also Jack. He took your nod as a signal to speak.
“How did this whole thing start?”
“A very good question…I’m afraid that it started with you. Not specifically you, but everyone in this room. I am told that Slender sends you on missions to kill a specific target, and once you kill them you are supposed to head back. Unfortunately, some of you kill on your way home. That is where I believe it started. It would not have been a problem if you killed when you weren’t sent away with a target, as those people were supposed be murdered.”
You stepped back and allowed Slender to once again speak to the audience of killers. The black book continued to glow and fade as you took out the white one and began to scribble notes into it. The ink shone brightly before once again becoming dull.
“To help (y/n) here, I will be sending one of you with (her/him) to fix some of the deaths. You will then come back here where you will switch with another and we will continue to do this until the end of the month or until the situation is fixed. As for you, EJ, when you are not with (her/him) we will bring home the needed organs from the victims so you may eat. Are there any questions?”
No one raised their hand and everything was silent except for the sound of pencil against paper. Slender nodded in satisfaction.
“Good. So from now on, there will be no killing for a month unless you are fixing the death of a person. You are dismissed.”
