Description
Last one! I did this over a year ago, but I still love it quq It was the second Concentration piece I did last year (my junior year) for AP Studio Art... I did the class twice, lolFor the second semester of your AP portfolio you're supposed to come up with a theme/concept and all your drawings in class have to have that theme for the rest of the semester (one finished piece a week). My theme for the first year I took AP Studio Art was people showing emotions through body language and color instead of through facial expressions, BUT THEN instead of having their faces be blank, or not having a face at all (which would make it confusing because the body is doing something totally different then the face) I decided to have all the people wearing masks, specifically animal skulls. Because a lot of animals symbolize certain personality traits (intelligent owl, proud lion, playful puppy, etc.), I wanted to combine the people's body language, plus the animals and colors to really make the person's personality stand out. It was a pretty complicated theme, but once all the pieces are together you get it |D This one was the Vulnerable Mouse, hence the mouse skull mask 8]
16x21. Acrylic paint. Made in 2008.

Ok I know I already comment, but every time I stumble across your page I want to comment on it again,, so here I go.
The posture is so fitting, vulnerability is being yelled through every piece of this. The body language is just so strong, I can't stop looking at it. I also couldn't help but notice that the 'Mouse' is even underweight, showing more vulnerability and highlighting the fear it has of the world.
lol my rant is done. Thanks so much for posting this.

this looks very good. you captured the emotion in the body very well, like, even from the thumbnail you get a sense of the painting's overall mood. i dont know if offering a crit is even relevant, since it's 2 years since you did this now, but in the future, if you're compositing parts together (animal skull+human body) it can be kind of strange visually when one part (like the mouse skull here) doesnt have symmetry. I'm not saying that's your fault, the skull you reffed couldve been damaged, but when looking at this piece it threw me off at first.

Thank you! And I know what you mean, I can see how that would throw you off a little. I had decided to go with the broken side of the face when I was putting refs together to make the skull, because I thought the 'broken' aspect would add to it a little more and make the figure seem even more vulnerable. But thank you for the crit! I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future c8

I really, really like this one, the pose conveys the emotion so well, and your concept behind it is awesome too.

This concept is so cool ;_; I REALLY LOVE HOW YOU PAINTED THIS AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS FEELS SO VULNERABLE!! Your choice of pose is so amazing and how its curling itself up into a ball and hiding itself where it needs hiding and everything fff. AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU INTENDED ON DOING THIS but along the body it looks like, with the striped darker and lighter shades, half-opened blinds letting light in and it almost adds to your concept because someone could look in and see therefore making it even more vulnerable AHH SO COOL. You are amazing KEEP PAINTING.
