I was feeling all sorts of unhappy today so I decided to finally getting around to doing a speed-paint drawing from one of the birdy books I borrowed from the library. I plan on actually doing more, so I can draw my favorite birds, but this one was just an idle practice to see if I could even improve my mood...

Anyway, this handsome fellow is a "Short-toed Eagle", also called a "Snake Eagle" According to the caption on the picture. I'm still gonna' just call it a hawk though...as I tend to call most birds of prey hawks regardless of what they actually are. I do the same with fish (all being called fishy) and regular birds...or Ring Wraith dragon things (all being called birdies). *shrug* Anyway... I should really actually read the book, as I am sure it is most fascinating, but I'll be honest; I just grabbed it for the pretty pictures.

Post Script - I was very tempted to turn this into a gryphen. Oh, so tempted...

Thank you. It was one of the first times I tried to paint anything.

This came out great, I see it is an old painting but you are still requesting a critique.

The only suggestions I have would be some faint highlighting, upper beak, top of the head.

That would add more depth. Honestly I love this the way it is.

Β

Also I see you like doing animals so I want to share a link.

It is kind of advanced, I have watched it many times and still can’t do what he does.

But I have learned a lot about using brush dynamics from it. Learning how to do things never ends.

There is just so much to learn….sigh.

Ohmygod this is so old.... *stares in horror* ...I don't even remember making it really.

Thank you so much for the advice and stuff--I'd tackle this so much differently now hahaha.

You're really good at making birds. I love the intensity in its eye.

Turn it into a gryphen!

I love birds. I guess it shows, huh? If only I was better with my other favorite animal. Ha ha ha~!

Oh, maybe I'll do that with the next one I try then~!

Yay!

Wolves of course~! They are obnoxiously hard to draw though... *frown*

Ah! But I tend to see much more wolf art than birds, it seems.

Really? I guess I really don't browse much because I don't see too much of a preference. Then again wolves are probably easier for most to draw. Hm... Have you seen =Nambroth they have some good birdy art in their gallery. And if you're into photography of actual animals *Sooper-Deviant is one of the best!

Oh yeah. I see more wolves and foxes (and hedgehogs, if you look in the Sonic art) than any other animal, typically.

Ah, I'll give them a look.

If I could write a critique I would (d@rn that internet-membership fee!) But, this is pretty darn good, especially if this is indeed a speedpainting.

You know, one of the prizes in my raffle is a subscription. If you enter you might win it~! Why not help advertise too--if you refer people to me that buy some tickets I'll give a few to you for free as my thanks!

Anyway, back to this...

You are more than welcome to leave a critique for me here if you do have one~! I'd appreciate it.

And yes, this was a speed-painting. (As I understand the term anyway. Pfft. I could be very wrong. Ha ha.) It took me about...an hour. I didn't actually keep track this time.
