That's a bit of a stereotype. Prior to the twenty-first century, mental hospitals did in fact often treat inpatients inhumanely. Nowadays - sans many poorer or less-advanced countries - mental hospitals strive for the safety and treatment of patients. You'll almost never see anyone straitjacketed unless they're a potential danger to themselves or others. I.E., prior instances of severe self-mutilation or attempted assault on staff or something.

insanity is a inresting subject for me what classifies a person as insane ...is it just skewed perception of reality? ...or is just the inablity to cope with reality as we know it? yes think about that!

It's both. Having the inability to cope with reality is ultimately derived from a skewed perception of said reality. Being a genius is also qualifies as viewing reality in a different way in the social atmosphere we as social creatures developed. Thusly, there is a fine line between genius and insanity because most importantly what qualifies as insane is the way other people look at you.
