Description
I did this illustration for an electronic artist (called Elliphant, but not the famous one!)The brief went something like: "an elephant, but zany, and with galaxies!" Haha, I was totally there. Always down for a surreal elephant. I classed it as digital because of the textures/colours, but it's essentially just an ink drawing. I always liked the weird notions of giant animals in space, like in the Discworld book series. So I was inspired by that as well as Dali's surreal long-legged elephants. I tried to give it a sense of spiritual or cosmic importance through it being so huge and in the centre of this galaxy, with everything spiralling in sync with its form.
Anyway, hope you like it!

Delightful interpretation!
---------
"If elephants didn't exist, you couldn't invent one. They belong to a small group of living things so unlikely they challenge credulity and common sense. Animals such as aardvarks, hammerhead sharks and star-nosed moles. All so odd they can only be described in terms of something else, something more familiar.
Compared to them, we are primitive, hanging on to a stubborn, unspecialised, five-fingered state, clever but destructive. They are models of refinement, nature’s archangels, the oldest and largest land mammals, touchstones to our imagination.” -(Lyall Watson, Elephantoms)

You are welcome Yes, I love that little quote too.

How do you get down off an elephant?
You don't, you get down off a goose.

So elegantly decorated and beautifully detailed. The gorgeous shapes and shading give this a life of it's own.

Thanks I had a version of this with a completely black background. While it had much more impact, the whole outer line (and the heaviest) was lost and seemed to throw everything off slightly.

Thanks! Wow, "clutch". I have never heard that one, I feel old. Has it got interesting origins? Lol.

Np!
I'm sure there is a compelling backstory for "clutch" dwelling somewhere in the sands of time...lol.

Thanks I did a whole bunch of other sketches that were neither simple nor elegant, haha. Maybe they can be used one day though.
