Description
I drew this little robot on the back of a post card a while ago and thought he looked so cool that i had to do something with him. I cut him out and sat him on my desk. As I pursued various other projects, he watched over...waiting for his time to shine lol...this was about 3 months ago. This was finished in a bit of a rush (I was using it for an interview I had the next day to get into uni). I started without a concept, I just wanted the robot to be accompanied by more things that had been cut out. Once the squares came and I started playing around with their placement, the idea of what it would all say simply cultivated itself. It was about being imaginative and original - a tornado of ideas and imagination coming out of his head, in contrast to the plain, orderly squares he resided in or was expected to adhere to (as a robot of course).
Hope you like it

Epic take on "Think outside the box"! Er, square.
Really awesome. I hope the colored version looks just as amazing as this one. C:

wow, portfolios seem pretty hard to do. This is a very great piece of art though. I'm sure the interviewers will be impressed. (especially with the DD)

Hehe, I remember when I was talking about it - I explained I was almost not going to put it in and the interviewer said "I'm glad you did". Nice Thankyou!

First, congrats on the DD. This is one of the deserved ones.
Second, I really like this piece, first and foremost for having the courage of keeping it b/w (I agree that some works are made to stay that way and that colour would spoil them).
Then I like its decorative strength: decoration is powerful if used correctly.. I like the whole composition, the way motives are used in a constan contrast and symmetry at the same time.
And robots are always fun to draw!

That's amazing!
I was really expecting a person, probably a child sitting down looking up at the things they were imagining, but having the robot there instead was a real surprise! That little guy is so funny!

Thanks! Haha, I've known this piece for so long, but I can imagine how a robot would be a bit random
