Description
Here's a quick commission I did of a flamenca that was also meant as an allegory of femininity: the beauty, the grace, but also the energy and strength of character.I had a lot of fun working from video reference, trying to capture the typical flamenco moves with still lines:

Flamenco is so powerful!
The second part of the commission was representing a knight as an allegory of masculinity and can be found here:

I'll play Prince Charming in a dance. Maybe not flamenco, but it'll be some kind of dance.

Nice! I'm a lousy dancer myself but dancers make great models for drawings

I remember somebody calling me a model, so I invite you to draw me if you want to.

This is creepy! I totally had this image bouncing about in my head for ages. Except I was going to bring my camera lower to the ground and the character closer. 👏🏻

Hahaha. That's funny.
Were you also going to go for the petals and the stylised graphic curves?
Thanks for all the favs, btw!

I was going to try fo sketchy realism -- very painterly. One day, I'll find the right model then watch out! 😊 You're welcome for the Faves. Awesome stuff!

Feel free to tag me on that day! I'd love to see your version.
For this one I used moving models (= videos) and it was really fun.
I also feel like it turned out better than if I had just used photo references because it forced me to try to capture movement and not just poses, which is much better for such a dance as flamenco.

You've discovered animator's tricks. A still picture is never as good as a live model. 👊🏻

I don't know that it's never as good. They serve different purposes. As Glenn Vilppu says "there are no rules, only tools".
Still photographs are best for tight, highly detailed pictures.
Live static models are best for understanding volume and colour.
Live moving models are best for capturing natural gesture and movement.

True. I'm just sharing my experience. Everyone's is different. 😊

I find that I have to capture the gesture from movement, otherwise the drawing falls apart; it seems stiff and unattural. However, I'm talking about working from the head, not just copying a photograph. To get more movement from a photograph, I push the angles.
I don't know what I would do if I did not have access to Google. 😁

haha, getting that movement in a still image sure would be a challenge! I think you succeeded. The blur and the falling skirt definitely were good choices.

So awesome! I thought first it was a 3d figure.

Haha! Thanks. But no, it's just good old lighting theory. There's actually a few things that don't make sense in 3d, especially the bottom of the dress.

Thank you for your submission to the group
I love the way you have created depth in this work of art with the background faded - beautifully done!

Thanks! It's a good trick to know when you don't want to spend time on rendering a background
Though it doesn't work as well with traditional media

Thanks, Pia! And I love that emote: pure positivity with that touch of humour that keeps it from being cheesy
